Stephen Edward "Steve" Smith,72 , died Monday, June 12, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his family.

A Funeral Service will be conducted with Masonic Rites at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Duke officiating. Burial will be private. The family will see friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church and at other times they will be at the residence: 718 Irvin Farm Rd. Reidsville, NC 27320

A native of Guilford Co., he was a son of the late George Edward and Evelyn Vernon Smith and had lived in Reidsville all of his life. He along with his Father, Edd Smith, owned and operated New Farmer's Warehouse in Reidsville and Dixon's Warehouse in Mullins, SC for many years. Steve was a veteran of the N.C. National Guard, a member and usher at First Baptist Church, a member of the Robinson/Moore Sunday School Class, Jefferson Penn Masonic Lodge #384 AF&AM, Greensboro Valley of the Scottish Rite, NC Grand York Rite, The Oasis Shrine Temple, the Order of Eastern Star, Supreme Council of the Order of the Amaranth Majestic Court No. 20, Reidsville Elks Lodge # 1723, former member of the Reidsville Jaycees, the Past Chairman of the N.C. Tobacco Foundation, and a commissioner on the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission. Steve's love for the tobacco industry and the friendships he made through it were a lifelong passion for him. He was a true tobacconist. He enjoyed meeting his breakfast crowd each morning at local restaurants solving the problems of the world. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife: Alice Carraway Smith, by his sister: Betsy Jo Smith, and by a nephew: Jimmy Batts.

Surviving are his son, Edward Smith and wife; Erica of Brown Summit and his daughter, Aimee Smith Tilley and husband; Ira of Reidsville, grandchildren Stephen Edward "Tripp" Smith III, and Emmeline Adaire "Emme" Smith, nieces, Heather Winstead & Holly Pate of Sandy Cross, NC, great nieces, Ashley Pate & Bayleigh Pate of Sandy Cross, NC, great nephew, Connor Brown of Sandy Cross, NC, sisters in law, Elaine Pate & Joyce Batts of Sandy Cross, NC. The family wishes to thank Steve's caregivers: Michelle Apple, Jewell Baker, Jacquie Cochrane, Cecil Cottrell, Tracy Kelsey, & Renee Paschal.

Memorials may be made to the Steve Edward Smith Scholarship Fund at RCC PO Box 38 Wentworth, NC 27375. Citty Funeral Home is assisting the Smith family. Online condolences may be made at www.cittyfh.com
