Dr. Prakken was a brilliant, compassionate, curious, honest physician and an entirely decent human being. And he had such a clever sense of humor! Losing such a remarkable human being is certainly devastating for his family, friends, colleagues, and patients, but it is also a tremendous loss for the community (and, yes, the world). There are so few men of his caliber.
I had the good fortune of being in his care before Duke Pain, before Avance, all the way back to his days is the Chapel Hill office. I suppose I don´t have a legitimate claim to the devastation and grief I´m experiencing, but to all who were dear to him, know I am there with you.
May his memory be for a blessing and may the presence of his enduring love comfort all who were lucky enough to be loved by him.
I know that Lisa, Karen, and Deb are hurting. Know that the way he valued each of you and trusted your independent professional judgement and growth is very clearly evident in each of your own practices.
May all who are morn him move from strength to strength.

Dr. Prakken was Scott's pain management doctor for 25 years. Even when forced to see another Dr. We returned to Dr Prakken for help. He treated Scott more than a doctor or more than money. Dr. Prakken wanted to help give him a better quality of life. He always greeted us with a smile and a hand shake and a smile. Even in the last year, he was helpful and offering help in my back pain. Dr.Prakken will be missed in many ways and no caliber of doctors could measure up.

Dr. Prakken and Dr. Karen McCain were the best Pain management doctors in treating Scott for close to 25 years. We followed him throughout the years even when we made him see another doctor. Dr. Prakken helped Scott in many ways other than in pain management. Both the medical profession and society will miss him. We not only saw him as a doctor but as a close friend. To him it wasn't about money but being able to help. He always greeted us with a smile and a hand shake. We will miss him in both friendship and as a doctor.
