Suzanne McNulty Obituary

Suzanne L. McNulty

Chapel Hill

Suzanne McNulty, 84, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 1, 2014. The daughter of Leonie and Louis Hermand, she was born in Gonaives, Haiti, in 1929. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Georges, and is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. John R. McNulty, originally of Potsdam, NY, and her sister, Helene Roumain. She is also survived by two daughters, Michelle Scannell (Kevin) and Maura McNulty-Finn, and two sons, Thomas McNulty (Janet) and Riley McNulty (Songtao Lu), and her grandchildren, Sean, Eric, Stephanie, Tyler, Rose, Nick, Jessica, Clara, Molly, Quinlan and Gwendolyne, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Suzanne was dearly loved. She devoted her life to the care of her family, and was deeply committed to animal welfare. She discovered an artistic gift later in life, and has left us many wonderful paintings to remember her by. Although she was proudly an American citizen, she maintained an abiding love for the French language and for her native Haiti, and is mourned by family there, as well.

She will be remembered at mass at the Neumann Center in Chapel Hill on Saturday, June 7, at 11 o'clock.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Suzanne's name to the ASPCA, 520 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor New York, NY 10018. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walker Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
