Thomas Squires Whitaker, Jr., 27, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016. He was the son of Thomas Squires Whitaker, Sr. & Vickie Greeson Whitaker both surviving.

Thomas graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury in 2014 with a BA in History and was currently a student at Cape Fear College in Wilmington. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh.

Survivors include his son, Hudson Squires Whitaker of Dunn; parents, Thomas Squires Whitaker, Sr. and Vickie Greeson Whitaker of Burlington; sisters, Katie Overby and husband, Benjy of Burlington and Liz Powell and husband, Bob of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania; niece, Haley Powell and nephews, Benjamin Overby, Jr., Thomas Overby, William Overby and Tyler Powell; paternal grandparents, Homer and Louise Whitaker of Burlington and best friend, Ted Triantis of Wilmington and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Ron Shive, officiating and Dr. Norman M. Whitney. The family will receive friends following the service in the Witherspoon Room and other times at his parents home.

I worked quite a few years with Tom Whitaker (as Chief Counsel and Commissioner). He is a fine and compassionate man. I know he and his wife is heartbroken over the death of their son. No words can ease that pain, but you are definitely in my prayers and thoughts during this time and for a long time afterward. They say that God does not put more on us than we can handle; and at times like this, we wonder. But God will get you thru this; think of all the good times and remember and love his son will help you out. I just wished I could go something to help you during this time.
