Vickie Atkins Obituary

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4:6-8
Vickie Pittman Atkins, 64, went home to be with her Lord Friday morning, September 2, 2011 after a very brief illness. There will be a Celebration of Life held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church. Reverend Ben Pearce and Reverend Bob Coats will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Vickie was born in Rocky Mount to the late James and Louise Pittman.
Vickie loved her husband, her children and grandchildren with an unwavering faith and optimism. She was a woman of incredible faith and was a loyal member of Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church for over 35years. She was a teacher of the New Life Fellowship Class and was an integral part of the Women's Priority Associates and the Core Group as well. For the past five years she was employed by Patriot State Bank and was very close to the staff there. She has been a bank teller since 1968 and a Real Estate Broker since 1979. She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and all those she touched throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jim Atkins; daughters, Jamie Vuncannon and husband, Jason of Fuquay-Varina, and Julie Atkins of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Taylor and Lane Vuncannon; sister, Merle Hobbs and husband, Roy of Wilmington, NC; brothers, Jerry Pittman and wife, Sherry of Holden Beach, John Pittman and wife, Peggy of Fuquay-Varina.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 5, 2011 at Thomas Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home, 1129 Crystalwater Drive, Fuquay-Varina.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in her memory to The Healing Place of Wake County, 1251 Goode St. Raleigh, NC 27603.

I was so very sad to hear of Vickie's passing. I had no idea she was ill. I am so thankful that I got to see her at the last reunion and share so many memories of our childhood . She was truly a remarkable lady and everyone that knew her was drawn to her. God indeed has a New Angel!!
