Waldo Risner Obituary

Rev. Waldo Emerson Risner, 92, of Raleigh, died peacefully on March 14, 2008, in Raleigh Duke Hospital, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born on December 14, 1915 in Grassy Creek, KY to Shelby and Martha Risner, Rev. Risner was the tenth of eleven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, his first wife, Clara Schuller Risner (1993) and second wife, Evelyn Durden Risner (2004).
Rev. Risner graduated from Central Bible College, Springfield, MO in 1939 and became an ordained Assemblies of God minister in 1940. He faithfully pastored and was involved in ministries for the next 55 years at Assemblies of God churches in Kentucky, New York, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Louisiana and North Carolina. Following retirement from his last pastorate in 1995, Rev. Risner moved to Raleigh and attended the First Assembly of God Church on Blue Ridge Road until his health failed in late 2007.
Loving memories of Rev. Risner will be cherished by his daughter, Ruth and Rev. Carl Miller of Winston-Salem; his two sons, Dr. Marc and Cheryl Risner of Raleigh, and Dr. David and Jody Risner of Newburgh, IN; eight grandchildren, Julia Baker, Beverly Hooper, Amy Jones, Rachel Finch, Elizabeth Jacobi, David Risner, Jr., Jonathan Risner, and Abigail Risner; ten great- grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends between 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday March 17, 2008, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, followed by a funeral at 3:00 p.m. A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 19, 2008, where Rev. Risner will be laid to rest in the family cemetery near his Kentucky birthplace.
