Walter Coggin Obituary

Walter Edward "Buck" Coggin, Sr., age 84, died Saturday, 4-21-01, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
A memorial service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Monday, 4-23-01, by Rev. Eric Porterfield.
Mr. Coggin was a past master of Masonic Lodge #151. He was a charter member of the Sanford Rotary Club and also the Sanford Elks Lodge #1679. He was active in Boy Scouting and was chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee at First Baptist Church. He was one of the founders of the Lee County Sheltered Workshop. He was a past president of the N.C. Warm Air Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors Assoc. He was on the Advisory Board for the Order of Rainbow for girls.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Glick Coggin, eight brothers and one sister.
He is survived by sons, Walter E. Coggin, Jr., of Sanford, James M. Coggin, M.D., of the home; daughters, Rebecca Coggin Von Canon and husband, Charles, of Sanford, Elaine Coggin, of Asheville; brother, James Daniel Coggin and his wife, Virginia, of Lake George, CO; sister, Mary Lou Coggin Cahill, Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Parlor of First Baptist Church from 2-3:30 p.m. Monday before the service.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 202 Summit Dr., Sanford, N.C. 27330 or the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27565.
