Walter "Vic" Sims, 88, went to join his wife in Heaven on Monday, January 12, 2015. He was the son of the late William Henry Sims and Minnie Graham Sims Browning. He was the grandson of the late Benjamin Noel and Lydia Giles Sims and Crawford and Zulie Wilson Graham. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Martha Hutchins Sims and his siblings Robert Lee Sims, Edward William Sims, Lillie May Sims Lane, Bowling Sims and stepfather, Hugh Browning.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving April 13, 1944 to May 23, 1946 during WII. He served aboard the USS Mississippi and USS Idaho. He was aboard the USS Idaho in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945, when Japan surrendered on the USS Missouri. He retired from the US Post Office.

He is survived by his daughter Linda Hicks (Carl) and son Walter (Wink) Sims, Jr.; three granddaughters Kimberley Darby (Chris) of Jackson NH, Jennifer Crabtree (Bobby) of Kittrell NC and Megan Sims of Creedmoor NC; six great grandchildren Annabelle Darby, Jason, CJ, Vanessa and Sarah Crabtree and Aaliyah Faith Sims; step grandchildren Gail Johnson Woodard (Wayne) of Apex NC and Andy Hicks of Oxford NC and step great grandchildren, Kyle, Cara and Lane Johnson.

The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. by the Reverend Keith Williams in the Clements Funeral Chapel, 1105 Broad St, Durham. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 1171 Hwy 158, Oxford NC.

Pallbearers will be Charles Bonham, John Chapman, Billy Rowland, Kenny Sims, Dewayne Turnage, and Herschel Turnage.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity or Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 Hwy 158, Oxford NC 27565.
