William Cheatham Obituary
March 9, 1948 - October 1, 2021
Oxford, North Carolina - William H (Bill) Cheatham found final peace on October 1, 2021 at Duke Regional Hospital after an extended illness. Bill was born March 9, 1948 in Shanghai, China to the late John Gordon Cheatham and Eleanor Finnegan Cheatham. Bill graduated from The University of North Carolina in 1970. He was a counselor and administrator at Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin counties Area Mental Health Program until his retirement in 2000.
Left to cherish the wonderful life they had together is his wife of 52 years, Nina Wheeler Cheatham of Oxford, sister, Ann C Pingstock (Mike), Forest, VA; sister in law Ruth Wheeler Henderson, Raleigh NC, brothers in law Ted Wheeler, Mebane NC, Tim Wheeler (Donna), Raleigh NC, Richard Wheeler (Susan), Myrtle Beach SC; nieces Julie Clark (Ryan) Huntersville, NC, Sara Stanley (Scott) Lynchburg, VA, Gwendolyn Wheeler Serchen (Andrew) Canberra, Australia; nephews John Cheatham and Christopher Cheatham, Jupiter, FL, Nicholas Wheeler, Charlotte NC, Justin Wheeler, Raleigh NC, Will Wheeler, Charlotte NC; and more dear friends than can be listed. He was preceded in death by his brother, John G. Cheatham Jr and brother in law, John L Henderson.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to ACIM, 634 Roxboro Rd, Oxford NC or a charity of your choice.

Nina, my heart is so sad for you. I have such good memories of you both when we lived in Henderson. That was long ago but I can imagine Bill remained much the same and will be missed by so many. Emily

Nina, I have never forgotten the welcoming warmth of all the Cheathams to this lost girl of the 70's and hate that I have lost contact over the years. You and Bill were fun to be around. Find peace.
