William Hicks Jernigan
November 28, 1928 - September 10, 2013

William Hicks Jernigan, age 84, died Tuesday morning in the SECU Hospice House. Born November 28, 1928 in Cumberland County, he was a son of the late William Bernice and Alice Pearl Hudson Jernigan. Mr. Jernigan was retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service and since then has sold stainless steel cookware.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Pastor Bob Coats officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Hocutt Jernigan; sons, Billy Jernigan and Bryan Jernigan and wife Sharon all of Smithfield and Tim Jernigan and wife Teresa of Middlesex; daughter, Deborah DeLaPorte and husband Steve of Smithfield; sister, Alene Hocutt of Moyock; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the SECU Hospice House, P.O. Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
