Benjamin Coats

Clayton, NC: Mr. Benjamin Coats, age 78, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, surrounded by his loving family. Graveside Funeral Services will be 11:00AM-Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson, NC. Pastor Darrell Sauls will officiate.

Mr. Coats was born on September 25, 1947 in Harnett County, NC, to the late Lacy Coats and Mabel Langdon Coats. Shortly after graduating high school, Ben joined the Army and served one extended tour in Vietnam. Ben after discharge from the Army, became a computer supervisor for First Citizens Bank for 33 years and worked for Farm Bureau for 10 years. Ben enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales looking for treasures. He got great joy from his pets.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Phyllis Coats; daughter, Olivia Coats Dominick and husband, Scott; son, Benjamin Lacy Coats and wife, Laurie; grandchildren, Joseph Dominick and Katherine Dominick; sisters, Ann Wiggins and husband, Johnny, and Carolyn Knight; step-son, Alex Stell and wife, Laura; step-grandchildren, Chloe Stell, Olivia Stell, Violet Stell, Sydney Stell and Lillian Stell; great granddaughter, Finley Little; neighbor whom he called his son, Cesar Inestroza and his wife, Del Delsi and their children, Cesar and Ava; fur babies, J.D. and little girl.
