CASTRO, Alfred C.
88, of Carpinteria CA, was welcomed into the heavenly gates on December 3, 2012. He was born on November 24, 1924 in Floresville, Texas. As a young man, Alfred "Freddy", moved to Santa Barbara with relatives and bounced around California before enlisting in the US Air force. A WWII veteran; he spent time in Germany and France before meeting the love of his life, Eleanor. Freddy settled with his family in Carpinteria in 1958, where he resided until his passing.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor, his children Louie, Eddie, Bobby, Danny, JoAnne, Freddy Jr., Abel and many Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren who adore him. Freddy was a dedicated, hardworking man who worked for Penhall for many years and retired as a member of the Operating Engineers Union. Later in life, Freddy's good looks led to an acting career, appearing as an extra in feature films, commercials, and even a children's show called "Critter Getters".
Freddy looked forward to family gatherings, dancing with Eleanor, loving on his grandchildren, sunsets at Carpinteria beach and watching a good boxing match. He was always there to lend a helping hand and loved to get his hands dirty around the house, in the garden, or working on his motorcycle.
He will always be remembered for his contagious smile, unconditional love, and for being the Castro family patriarch. The love that he shared will be passed on for many generations to come.
A Celebration of Freddy's Life will be held Saturday, Dec. 15th from 1pm-3pm at Canalino School, 1480 Linden Ave, Carpinteria, CA. Reception will follow at the Castro Residence.
