Passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014, at age 67, at home in Goleta, CA. Over the past few years, her health declined and she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia.
On October 31, 1946, Beverly was born to Ruben and Doloras (Velasco) Cortez in Lompoc, CA. Beverly had six brothers and two sisters and attended school in Santa Barbara. Beverly married Roy M. Romp on October 6, 1962 and they enjoyed over 51 years of marriage. Together they raised their four children in Goleta and have been wonderful parents and grandparents. Beverly was a loving wife and homemaker and always opened her home with generosity and love. She was employed in the field of electronics and provided work training for individuals with physical challenges. She developed her expertise and eventually owned a prosperous company. Beverly loved to travel and learn about other cultures. She enjoyed collecting souvenirs, listening to music, dancing, singing, the color yellow, and focusing on the good things in life. Beverly was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in 1969 and remained devoted to building her relationship with Jehovah and appreciated his good works. Beverly was a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother and friend who lived life and appreciated the gift of giving. She will be greatly missed.
Beverly is preceded in death by her father, Ruben Cortez and siblings Betty Cortez and Robert "Bobby" Cortez.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Roy M. Romp and their four children: Paula A. and Fernando M. Reynoso (Los Alamos, CA), Michael A. and Chizue (Yamahashi) Romp (Goleta, CA), Liza A. and Randall J. Miller (Pennsburg, PA), Melissa R. and Arthur J. Mullen (San Luis Obispo, CA), and nine (9) grand-children and seven (7) great-grandchildren. She is survived by her mother, Doloras Velasco (Santa Maria, CA), her siblings: Barbara and Bob Lopez (Santa Maria, CA), Ruben Cortez (Ogden, UT), Danny and Irene Cortez (Santa Barbara, CA) Gilbert Cortez (Santa Barbara, CA), Edward and Julie Cortez (Killeen, TX), James Cortez (Los Angeles, CA), and a large family of an uncle and aunt and nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, adopted family and friends.
A private viewing was held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel followed by a public memorial service at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and gathering of family and friends at the Goleta Valley Community Center. At a later date, Beverly's final resting place will be at the Goleta Cemetery District.
The family wishes to extend our gratitude for the love and support from family, friends and the warm caregivers from Hospice of Santa Barbara. The family recommends memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Santa Barbara, 1528 Chapala St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101 or Hospice of Santa Barbara located at 2050 Alameda Padre Serra, Santa Barbara, CA 93103.
Beverly was a strong and loving person who loved the beauty in all God's creations.
