Jack was born and raised in Woodstock, Illinois. He attended the Merchant Marine Academy before graduating from Michigan State University. After graduation he moved to California to work for Williams and Burrows Construction. A later job transfer brought him to Santa Barbara where he worked for Don Greene for many years. Upon Don Greene's retirement, Jack started Ostrander Construction. Through the many years that Jack worked, he mentored many young people as they started their own careers. Even after Jack retired he kept working with many local contractors.
Jack loved to ski! He met Bea, the love of his life, while at Mammoth. Together they skied all over the world for many years. Jack was an Eagle Scout, a Sigma Alpha Epsilon, he loved to sail and ride bikes. He played tennis at Knowlwood and liked to putter at home.
Family was most important to Jack. He loved his wife and daughters, but his grandsons were the apple of his eye.
Jack is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Buelah Ostrander, brother, Lawson Ostrander and grandson, Tanner Becker. He is survived by his wife Bea, daughters, Susie Ostrander, Sally Martyniuk (Paul), sister Joee Ziebell (Bud), grandsons, Andy Becker (Macauley), Hunter Becker, Jason Martyniuk. As well as a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.

Jack lived with Bea for 17 years on our property at 1910 North Jamison Lane. He either had a smile on his face or laughter with his words any time, Ryan, Zoe or I visited him. He was a prince - a kind, capable and magnanimous person who occupied a beautiful space in his years on this planet and I'm sure he is beaming down at all of us right now. We will miss him - but are happy he is now free from pain and suffering. Our condolences and love to Bea from Lori, Ryan and Zoe.
