John Subject Obituary

Goleta lost one of its strongest promoters with the passing of John Subject. John Andrew Subject was born in the Goleta Valley Hospital on a rainy day that flooded the new hospital, November 14, 1965 and his life ended on July 28th, 2017 at Cottage Hospital. John attended Goleta schools and graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in 1984. During his high school years he was on the wrestling team and the football team. During his senior year and after graduation he was employed at The Radio Shack and later at Reliable Vacuum. He enrolled in Orange Coast College, taking a course on Dental Technology. He worked in the dental field in Orange County before opening Innovative Dental Lab in Goleta. Due to a lung illness he was forced to give up the dental lab business and started a pool cleaning service "Resort Pools" which he operated until he was no longer able. John loved people, football and music. He looked for the good in everyone. He coached the freshman football team at Dos Pueblos for several years. John's two passions were music and football, especially The Dallas Cowboys. Last season Norma arranged for him to see his cowboys play in Dallas. His love of music led him to play in several band groups: the first being "the Pedestrians" during Jr. High, then "Johnny Wool and the Gabardines" He played with Tom Mudugno and Brian Wahl at class reunions and social occasions. John leaves his parents Sally and Jim Subject, his brothers: Steven (Barbara), Jim (Lisa) his sister Suzanne, his niece Sadie Jean Subject, his nephew George Joseph Subject and his partner Norma Mesa who took excellent loving care of John during his decline. A special thank you to Mike Taggart who helped John to keep his pool business operating. There will be a private gravesite service on Wednesday, August 2nd. A celebration of John's life will be held in late August or early September.

I am remembering John as a shy-cute-little guy back in the late 70's and your wonderful family. I am so saddened by this loss of such a fun-loving, adventurous young man. My deepest sympathy goes out to all the Subject Family, and Norma. May the love of friends and family, and wonderful memories of joyful times together carry you through your grief.

John and I ran in the same circles and I could always count on seeing him at every social event when we were younger. What an icon John was. There will never be another like him. My sincerest sympathy to Norma and the Subject family.

My heart goes out to his family.I had a crush on him at DP and he gave me a ride home one day. I was so shy I couldn't say more than a couple of words to him. I'm sorry for your loss. He did have a big heart.
