Edna Madden Obituary

Edna May Madden
Boone - Edna May (Conard) Madden of Boone died December 26, 2020 at Order of Eastern Star Masonic Home. She was born on October 12, 1923 in Denver, Colorado to Oscar and Bertha (Schuler) Conard. The family moved to Iowa soon after, living in New Virginia, Indianola, and Boxholm, and finally settling in Mackey, where her family farmed.
Edna graduated from Story City High School. After attending Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines, she worked at Indianola Salon in Des Moines.
On April 25, 1943, Edna married DeWayne LeRoy Madden on her parents' farm. Many mornings were spent helping DeWayne on the farm before she went to work. Edna loved her work at the salons. Many of her customers at Bon Ton, Ron Do, and The New Beginning Style Salon became personal friends. Edna retired from hairdressing at 90 years of age.
Edna's favorite activities included working in her garden where she maintained flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees. Edna spent many late-summer days canning and freezing fruits and vegetables for her family to enjoy through the winters. She loved having her family gather at her table for monthly birthday celebrations and holiday dinners.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, DeWayne; daughter, Linda Anderson; son-in-law, David Lee Anderson; sister, Alice Ahrens; sister, Vera Meyer; and brother, Howard Conard.
She is survived by her children: Joyce (Don) Hart of Boone, Iowa; Craig (Cindy) Madden of Boone, Iowa; Russell (Chris White) Madden of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Valerie (Glade) Parker of Floyd, Iowa; her grandchildren: Mark (Greta) Hart, Angela (Dave) Kolker, Jeremy (Rachel) Anderson, Dallas Parker, and Chris (Elisabeth) Ingram; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and sister, Mary Poling.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the Mackey Community Preservation Fund and can be sent to C/O Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 116, Boone, IA 50036.
Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Mason officiating.
