Sandra Rogers Obituary

Sandra (Sandi Roe) Rogers, 67, of Moorland, IA passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa following a courageous 19 year battle with cancer with three different cancers.
Sandi was born July 9, 1941 in Boone, IA to Loran and Maurine (Erickson) Roe. She graduated from the Ogden High School in 1959. Following graduation from high school she attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, MN. Sandi worked as a Lab Technician at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Boone County Hospital in Boone and the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge. She married Wayne Rogers on Sept. 4, 1960 in Ogden, Iowa. Sandi and Wayne moved to Fort Dodge from Boone in 1964 where they owned and operated Rogers Drywall. In 1978 Sandi and Wayne built a home on an acreage north of Moorland, IA. Sandi was the bookkeeper for Rogers Drywall and later for Rogers Chiropractic. When first moving to Fort Dodge Sandi sang with the Fort Dodge Glee Club and most recently she sang with the Sonshine Singers in Fort Dodge. Sandi sang with the Sonshine Singers March Music Ministry program at the same time she was receiving radiation at Mayo Clinic this last spring. Sandi belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir and also mentored a confirmation class. Following Wayne's death she also volunteered with Trinity Hospice. Sandi loved to sing and enjoyed being outside on her acreage planting many flowers and trees. Her greatest love was for her family and spending time with them. During the last two years Sandi enjoyed climbing at least 15 of the fourteen thousand foot mountains with her friend, Bill Sergeant.
Sandi is survived by and will be greatly missed by her two sons, Bradley Rogers and Dr. Benjamin (Phyllis) Rogers, all of Barnum, IA. Two grandsons, Matthew and Sean Rogers of Barnum and two step grandchildren, Joshua (Nikki) Van Waes of Ankeny and Jessica Van Waes of Des Moines and a step great grandson, Carter Van Waes of Ankeny. Also surviving are two sisters, Barb (Chuck) Westberg of Boone and Laurie Roe of Evergreen, CO. Nephews Jeff (Annette) Westberg and their children Wyatt and Kylie of Woodward and Marc Westberg of Boone. Also surviving is brother-in-law Morris (Barb) Rogers of Riverside, CA, sisters-in-law Mary Corson, Faye (Marvin) Grems, Marion Rogers, all of Boone, and Ruth (Marvin) Stumpenhorst of Ogden and her special friend, Bill Sergeant of Fort Dodge, along with many other relatives and friends. Preceding Sandi in death were her husband Wayne in 2004, her parents and brother-in-law, Don Rogers.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Steven Peters officiating. Sandi has donated her body to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Trinity Hospice or the Sonshine Singers, all of Fort Dodge.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Sandi, she was a sweetheart and a great lady, I will always remember sharing a study hall table with her in Ogden High School, may God be with you during this sad time and may she float in the Heavens above and be looking over us.

It's hard if not impossible to find any comfort when you have lost your loved one. You think your heart will never heal, but it does in time and with God's love. She will always be with you in your thoughts and in your memories, and even though she is gone, in remembering her, she will make you smile. It has been a long time since I have seen her, but I remember what a wonder person she was and what a lovely voice she had. God's blessings to you and your
families.
