Alex Archie Obituary

Alex Archie Alex Archie, age 18, died suddenly December 10, 2007. Alex was attending The Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., as a Post Graduate. Alex was born at Danbury Hospital on August 23, 1989, the son of Tom and Lisa Archie. He was a graduate of Pomperaug High School 2007 where he played on the lacrosse, football, cross country and track teams. Alex was very proud of the Freshman record he still holds for the 2 mile. Alex's true passion was lacrosse. He was a captain of the Pomperaug Boy's Lacrosse Team. He and his friends were the founding players of Pomperaug Youth Lacrosse. Alex, his wonderful teammates and coaches helped make Pomperaug Lacrosse an up and coming powerhouse during their four year tenure. Alex was only here for a short while, but touched many people. He had a love for lacrosse, The Creator's Game, and thrived on friendships he had built via school and sports. Alex will be forever remembered for his God given magnificent and engaging smile. His giving and compassionate personality was perfectly captured in recent months with his participation in Operation Smile at The Hill School, a program to help children overcome cleft palette. In athletics and in life, he always pushed to get the best out of himself and his teammates and friends. He was always looking to take his game to the next level and drive for the best. He believed "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." His role models were Steve Prefontaine, Lance Armstrong, Muhammad Ali, Ray Charles and his brothers and many friends. Alex will be missed, but his spirit will live on as a driving force for many. He is survived by his father and mother, Tom and Lisa, his brothers, Sam and Henry, grandmothers, Jean Archie of Lewisburg, PA and Martha Campbell of Skidaway, Ga., and several loving extended family members. A memorial service that is open to the public will be held on Wednesday December 19, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, the corner of Main Street South and Route 172, Southbury, CT (Exit 14 off of I-84). A reception will be held at the church following the service. To honor Alex's life and the many contributions he made to the development of local youth lacrosse programs, a foundation is being established in his name. The Alex Archie Foundation will benefit lacrosse players in the Pomperaug Youth and High School Lacrosse Programs. The foundation will also provide assistance to Pottstown, Pa., lacrosse players requiring financial aid assistance at The Hill School and locally. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 'The Alex Archie Foundation' c/o Pomperaug Youth Lacrosse PO BOX 922, Southbury CT 06488.

Dear Tom,

We haven't met but I've heard your name mentioned a few times.I was told this morning about your son, by Marie Trombini, and it brought tears to my eyes. I have two sons and have had my share of ups and downs and I just want you to know that I feel your pain and I'm so sorry to have had to learn of this. There are no words to describe the grief that Mrs. Archie and you must be feeling.I've known friend's siblings pass the same way and there's just no explaining it. I only hope that you and your wife could find someway to find some peace as difficult as it may be.

Dear Tom and Lisa,
I never had the opportunity to meet your son Alex, but I'm very sure that he was the beneficiary of having two very loving parents. Having known Tom over the years, he always seemed like a man who was born to be a dad. My wife, Kathy and I extend our sympathy and we will keep you in our prayers.

Lisa, Tom, Sam and Henry,

Our hearts ache for you...our prayers and constant thoughts are with you all and with Alex. Hang in there and find strength in each other...you are a wonderful family and you know that Alex was a gift, personified by his mark on the world, especially the passion to help build a program that will bring joy to hundreds (no thousands) of children and their parents too as they smile watching their beloved kids play!!!

Warm regards,
John, Leslie, Brandon and Kyle
