Annette Scully Obituary

Scully, Annette
Annette (Morin) Scully, 84, of Danbury, passed away on January 20, 2017, at Regional Hospice and Homecare, after a short but brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the wife of Raymond Scully, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage this past July.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children: son Dale and wife Judy (Integlia) of Bethel, daughter Mona and husband Paul Smith of Glastonbury, and son Brian and wife Ellen (Hall) of Middlebury. She also leaves 2 grandchildren: Ryan Scully and his fiancée Kelly Gagnon of Glastonbury, and Daniel Scully of Baltimore, MD. Annette leaves a sister, Celine Morin of St. Georges, Quebec, Canada; and brother Raymond and his wife Yolande (Begin) of St. Philibert, Quebec, Canada, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S., and her precious little dog, Coco.
Annette was born at home on July 21, 1932 in St. Philibert, Beauce County, Quebec, Canada to the late Henri and Marie-Anna (Lessard) Morin. Despite her mother wanting her to continue her education, she went to work at age 14 as a domestic, a hospital aide and then as a waitress in several restaurants in Quebec. Annette met Ray on a blind date in 1953 in St. Georges, Quebec, Canada. Ray had moved to CT a few years before and was back home visiting his parents. Annette's dream was to learn how to speak English, so after writing letters back and forth to one another, she traveled to Connecticut in 1955 and worked at various jobs in the Hartford area. When she took a job at the Hawley Manor in Newtown as a waitress, it became quickly apparent that she didn't speak enough English, so she was told to come back when her English improved. She came back in 6 months and was rehired and worked there for 7 years. She and Ray returned to Canada to be married on July 21, 1956 at L'Eglise de l'Assomption, St. Georges, Quebec, Canada.
They settled in Danbury and together built the home where they lived and raised three children. Annette was a homemaker and waitressed at the Amber Room. She also worked various part-time jobs at Waldbaum's, Kresge's, and Caldor's. After Ray retired, they purchased a motor home and visited almost all of the states in the continental U.S., as well as going across Canada with a caravan of motor homes. Annette and Ray spent their winters in Florida, Arizona, and Texas where they enjoyed making new friends and staying active by playing shuffleboard, bocce, cards, and dancing. Annette was an excellent seamstress, making clothes, and drapes for their home, reupholstering the couch, and even making slip covers for torn seats in some old cars. She could sew and mend just about anything. She knit and crocheted many items over the years.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Cornell Memorial Funeral Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 46 Stone Street, Danbury, on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date in St. Georges, Quebec, Canada.

Dear Ray and family. So sorry to learn of Annette's passing and the pain of going through the cancer. We were so lucky to be your next door neighbors at Rec Plantation. Right from the moment we arrived both of you were so kind and helpful to us over the next 10 years. We will miss her so much as I know all of your family will. May God be with you as you travel through this difficult time.
