Brian Davidson Obituary
March 30, 1965 - August 16, 2018
Brian Hayes Davidson passed away on August 16, 2018. Devoted father to Katie, who predeceased him, Emma, Olivia, and Devin, brother and uncle, and beloved friend to many who knew him.
Brian was a resident of Larchmont, NY, Mamaroneck NY, and Brookfield, CT, and attended Saints John and Paul School, Larchmont, NY, Mamaroneck High School, Iona College and LeMoyne College, and obtained a master's degree in counseling from Iona College and his second master's degree in school administration.
Brian had a love for people and sports, and basketball was an integral part of his life. He was on the basketball team at Mamaroneck HS, and reported the sports update for the High School homeroom television report "MHS Info". In basketball circles, he was known as the "White Shadow" or just "Shadow," in reference to a popular television show's main character. He was a regular for pick-up games anywhere there was a hoop in the Larchmont – Mamaroneck area.
An avid Mets fan, Brian enjoyed watching games with family and friends and going to Shea and Citifield stadiums. In addition, Brian developed a love of swimming and participated in the Swim Across America fundraiser for cancer research. This event was a passion of his for many years, having lost his father to cancer. For many years he had a regular swimming workout routine at the Western Ct Regional YMCA in Brookfield.
Brian's career in education began at Iona College in admissions and was followed by joining the guidance team at Iona Preparatory School. He spent more than 20 years at the Fox Lane School System, Bedford NY in positions at the high school including guidance counselor, guidance coordinator, and assistant principal. More recently he was an assistant principal at the middle school.
After his family, Brian's priorities were about helping people in many diverse ways through his roles as an educator and a coach. He understood how to reach the widest range of students and motivate a generation of young people through mentoring, counseling, and positive encouragement. As an administrator, he had a tremendous ability to bring students, teachers, and counselors together to reach common goals. In his hometown of Brookfield CT, Brian coached countless student athletes over many years in basketball and lacrosse, including all four of his children.
Brian spread his umbrella of warmth, understanding, and respect for people wherever he went, and was known for his tremendous sense of humor. In addition to devotion to his children, Brian is survived by his wife Sharon Davidson; brother John (Karen) Davidson and their sons Jack, Matthew and Patrick of Ridgefield, CT; sister Anne (William) Taylor and their children Johnny, Ryan and Shannon of Jacksonville Beach, FL; sister Marion (Joseph) Brenner and their children Joseph III and Ella of Annapolis, MD, and his godfather Desmond Morrissey of Greensboro, NC. Brian's extended family includes his mother-in-law Kathleen Irwin, brother-in-law Peter (Kerry) Irwin and their daughter Keira, and brother-in-law Thomas (Hannah) Irwin. Brian's daughter Katie, his parents Sally and John Davidson, and father-in-law Thomas Irwin are now greeting him in heaven.
Brian's family will receive relatives and friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. A mass of the Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m., St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 138 Candlewood Lake Rd., Brookfield. Burial will follow at Central Cemetery, Brookfield.

I spent many years with Brian at Saints John and Paul and truly loved and admired him. I was a youth minister when he was in high school and he was always around willing to help others. There was always a smile in his face and he would be the first to volunteer. I know I will meet him again in heaven.

I am so sad and sorry for your loss. I knew shadow from mhs and remember him so fondly, his large frame folded into the small chairs on the set of mhs info as he updated us on the latest sporting endeavors of our tigers. I would occasionally see Shadow ballin' at chatsworth where he ruled the court trash talking always in good fun. Though I haven't seen shadow for 20 years, my sister was a work colleague and kept me updated on what shadow was up to and how well regarded he was both in his community and professionally.
I can't imagine what his close friends and loved ones must be going through as I am personally so moved by his passing and I was a mere acquaintance. This makes no sense

This news breaks my heart. While we did not stay close after LeMoyne, which I regret, I did always love BD. Man, he was a funny guy! When he transferred to LeMoyne, he lived in my suite and roomed with Dan "Fatman" Kraszinski. I will say we had our share of fun together.
I want to extend my sympathies to you, Brian's family. I cannot imagine your pain. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless all of you.

I remember you were my biggest fan Mr. Davidson, always rooting for me at every talent show, play, and musical I performed in. Brian was one of the first administrators I met when I came to work at Fox Lane High School. He was warm and welcoming. His personality was magnanimous. I met Brian shortly after college and along with others rented summer homes in Fire Island, Hamptons and Jersey shore. In addition "The White Shadow", we also called him " Mr Activity" as he usually would get in a long swim, workout and hoops game before most of us woke up. We had so many laughs and great times.
I felt like the first time I met him he was one of my best friends and 28 years later he visited me in California to attend my 50th Birthday Party I feel happy I saw him then but am so sad right now thinking how we lost this great guy. RIP Brian, we miss your Burl.

Im writing you this letter to express our dearest and most profound sympathies for the passing of Brian. Words in this letter cant express the profound pain and despair that Chris and I feel over his loss and nothing compares to what you are feeling as a family right now. I wanted to write you this letter because I know that when we see you at the wake and funeral we wont know the right words to say.
I thought it would be good to share what Brian meant to Chris and I. Chris had always spoken fondly of Brian when we met over 13 years ago. He talked about how Brian was an incredible Assistant Principal who always had the rights words of encouragement. Chris spoke about how incredible Brian was with troubled students. When Chris was teaching social studies in the high school, Brian became a friend and not just a colleague. Brian became a mentor to Chris and was the one who had the pleasure of telling Chris he had made the job of Dean of Students. Chris worked hand-in-hand with Brian for almost 7 years helping the most challenging students at the high school to make better choices and become better people. I know Chris became a better dean, teacher, and person because of Brian. Chris talked endlessly of how much he learned from Brian.
We fortunately were married and able to buy a house down the road from you in Brookfield. I remember Brian and Steve coming to our house when we first moved in to check it out. Brian, being the charmer, complimented us on a good find and joked with us. From then on we went to a few of your family cookouts and you came to ours. He would pop by the house often with one of the kids to check-in. We would bump into one another at Stew Leonards and Brian would joke about how I was always at Stew Leonards. After our move to Ridgefield, Brian continued to visit us when he was in the neighborhood. We enjoyed his pop-ins and occasional visits for dinner.
While my time at Pound Ridge Elementary School, Brian always looked out for me. He would visit my classroom when he was visiting the building, he would shoot me an email to check-in or relay some funny joke about Chris, he was always there to greet me at FLMS when my fifth graders were going on their yearly tour. Each greeting was always a warm hug with great words. He often spoke of his wonderful children and how he loved watching them grow up. He also spoke of how happy he was for Sharon and how she has blossomed as a high school math teacher in Brookfield.
What stands out for me most was how incredibly charming and charismatic a person Brian was. He always knew the right things to say and knew how to make anyone feel comfortable in a situation that could feel uncomfortable at first. His gregarious personality never went unnoticed. People who met him who knew that I knew him would rave about him. Those who worked for him and students especially. He was a person who knew that nurturing a child and connecting with people was what mattered and that was how you could truly help another.
We are truly devastated over the loss of Brian and also know that people who knew and loved him are grieving just as much if not more. What gives me hope is knowing that Brian gave and gave to so many people and I honestly feel privileged to have known such an incredible person. I will take and remember all that he taught us knowing that one day we will see him again.

Brian grew up the street from me in Larchmont and we were in the same class. He was the reunion chair for the MHS 25th reunion. Although I only attended MHS for two years, he reached out personally to ensure that I still attend. When I saw him at the reunion, he was so filled with life and joy. I will remember him fondly. I knew Brian at St. John and Paul back in the late 1970's. He was always the jokester of the group. Multi talented, and very athletic. We were in a couple of musicals together. Oh my! Me. Davidson was quite a mentor to me. I would often meet him in his office and we would have lunch together and chat. He always made sure everything was going well for me. Whenever would pass each other in the hall He waved hello or since my last name is Best he would always say best in show he passed me!

Thank you for everything you did for me. You went out of your way to correct the pernicious path I was on in my youth. If not for you my life wouldve had a very negative outcome. I know I was probably one of the most difficult kids you encountered, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You will be missed.
