Carl Hirst Obituary
"Loving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather"
Carl F. "Chip" Hirst, 87, of Waterbury, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Claire I. (Ranjo) Hirst for 64 years.
Carl was born in Camden, NJ on August 6, 1934 a son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Striewski) Hirst. He attended schools in New Jersey and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Before his retirement, Carl worked as an engineer for AT&T for 24 years and was a member of the Pioneers of AT&T. He was an avid sportsman and outdoors-man having enjoyed golf, bowling, skating, skiing and walking. He was a card shark and also enjoyed playing games and reading. He cherished traveling with his family and being the great handyman that he was, he loved doing home improvement projects with his children.
Besides his wife, Carl leaves to cherish his memory their children, Linda Donegan and her husband, Richard of Wallingford, Karen Cacace and her husband, Louis of Southbury, Kenneth Hirst of Bolivia, NC, Richard Hirst and his wife, Stacey of Florida. Four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Trowbridge (Ryan), Andrew Whitlock (Veda), Stephanie Hirst and Peter Hirst and three-great grandchildren, Mia and Eli Trowbridge and Savannah Whitlock. He also leaves his sister, Elsie Chapman and her husband, Warren of Albuquerque, NM and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Kathleen Hirst and brothers, Arthur Hirst, Jr. and David Hirst, Sr.
Arrangements: Carl's funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in the spring. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, has been entrusted with his arrangements, located at 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT.
The family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
