Charles Mann Obituary

Charles Raymond Mann
Chuck Mann died in Venice, Florida, on May 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 31, 1947, in Danbury to the late Raymond and Louise Mann, he lived most of his life in Connecticut before retiring to Florida in 2007. Chuck and his wife, Karen, met while teaching at Newtown High School. He was a loving life-partner. Chuck leaves his son, Jeffrey and wife Christine of Charlotte, NC. He was Grandpa to five cherished grandchildren: Landon, Hannah, Mackenzie, Madison, and Grayson. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Jean (Mann) Long and Barbara (Mann) Bigham. He leaves behind an extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Chuck spent many years in education, from his Wooster High School years to completing advanced degrees from Western State Connecticut State University, Wesleyan University, and Southern Connecticut University. His interest in teaching led him to Newtown High School, where he had a long and diverse career. Chuck was an avid, accomplished golfer, who developed life-long friendships on New England and Florida courses. He enjoyed coaching his son's soccer, baseball, and basketball teams. Chuck will be sorely missed by his network of friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ of Southbury, CT, on July 26, at 11:00. Interment will be private. On October 22, an afternoon celebration of life reception will be held at Capri Isles Golf Club, Venice, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to All Faiths Food Bank, 8171 Blaikie Court Sarasota, FL 34240, or the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation at PO Box 821, Manalapan, NJ 07726.

My deepest condolences to Karen and family. I have many good memories of Chuck, growing up together on Farview Ave. in Danbury and then more recently playing golf together at his club in Venice.

Karen and family, I knew Chuck through Tom Lee (d.1983). So hadn't seen him in many years. He was pleasure to know. Very sorry for your loss.

I remember being with Charles in elementary school and Junior High in Danbury and he lived and grew up not far from my grow up Danbury residence. I was happy to know that he and his wife did teaching at Newtown High School and got to know my Newtown High School teacher cousin, Frank Tomaino. Also that Charles probably graduated the same year from Western CT. Teachers College with my deceased husband, Jack Bouclier. Charles was a nice fun classmate. I hope very happy memories of Charles bring peace and harmony to hearts and minds of his whole family and friends.

Mr. Mann was an outstanding History and Social Studies at NHS.

I always enjoyed his classes and his intellect.

RIP Mr. Mann
