Christine Matilda Shook, 90, a lifelong resident of Bridgewater, CT, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 27, 2016 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arthur Shook for 53 years.
Mrs. Shook was born in New Milford, CT, February 15, 1926, daughter of the late George Douglas and Matilda (Branson) Johnson.
She was a newspaper carrier for the Danbury News Times for 41 years, retiring in 2003. She also owned and operated school buses along with her late husband for many years. She was also a reporter from her home for the Danbury News Times, New Milford Times and Waterbury Republican-American. During WWII, she served with the civil defense as an Aircraft Watchperson.
Mrs. Shook was a life member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Bridgewater and a Master of the Bridgewater Grange. She was also involved with the Bridgewater Fire Department. She had a great love of music and singing. She helped many people throughout her lifetime. She was predeceased by a brother Douglas Johnson and a sister Mary Allen. She is survived by five sons, Arthur Shook, Jr. of Williamsburg, VA, Ronald Shook of Bridgewater, Terry (Cindy) Shook of Warren, CT, C. Scott Shook of Bridgewater and Tim (Diane) Shook of Bridgewater; two daughters, Connie (John) Morris of Everett, PA and Cynthia (Edward) Bennett of Bridgewater; 20 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 5 Main Street South, Bridgewater, CT.
