Dan Bielawa died unexpectedly, at his home in Clearwater, FL, on July 3, 2024. He was 65 years old.
He was born in Chicopee, MA, the second child of Henry and Claire Bielawa. The family moved to Pennsylvania and California before settling in Redding, CT, where Dan spent most of his childhood. He went to Paul Smith's College in the northern Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, an area he always loved. A degree in land surveying led to his lifelong career, earning his professional accreditations early on. He worked for various survey and engineering companies over his career, mainly in Pennsylvania, where he was licensed.
Dan loved hunting and fishing, antiques, renovating old homes and collecting wild mushrooms. He was an avid non-fiction reader and loved history. He passed his love of the outdoors on to his three boys.
Dan met Susan Wolf, his wife of 33 years, in Marietta, PA. She always said it was his twinkling blue eyes that got her! They married and moved to Lancaster, PA, where they raised three sons Rory (husband to Grace Winter), Emory (fiancée of Candace Shaw), and Liam Wolf-Bielawa. Dan loved his boys fiercely and was proud of the men they'd become. He also loved the family's beloved Airedale Terriers over the years.
Dan was predeceased by his mother, Claire, and his sister, Lynn. He is survived by his father, Henry Bielawa, his brother, Peter Bielawa (wife Jeanne) and sister, Sandra Bielawa. In addition to Susan and his sons, he was grandfather to Violet Winter, Adalyn Torres and Emma Wolf-Bielawa, and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
The family plans on a memorial service to be held on September 14th, at 11:00 a.m., in Eagle Commons at Woodcrest Villa in Lancaster.
