David Ketcham Obituary

David Ross Ketcham of Redding, CT died at home on January 25th following a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Summit, NJ, on March 25, 1948, Dave graduated from Summit High School in 1966. He graduated from Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia, in 1970 with a degree in Communications, which was followed by a Master's degree in Business Administration from Penn State. At Bethany, Dave was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity where he made many friends who would continue to contribute positively to his life until the very end of it. He enjoyed a thirty year career with Sealed Air Corporation of Danbury, CT, rising to Regional Sales Manager where the people he managed remained close friends even after his retirement in 2002. He led by example, dedicated to personal and business integrity, with his characteristic irrepressible spirit. He also enjoyed civic life in Redding and formed lasting friendships as a founding member of the Redding Raiders softball team-- and was often chief burger flipper at the annual Redding Town Hall cookout. Throughout his life Dave Ketcham gathered friends who never left his side, from his earliest days in elementary school through his last activities as an adult. He was known and loved for his genuine interest in people, his keen sense of humor and positive attitude even in the face of adversity-and always his love of the game, whether on the field or off. Dave's passion for sports, both as spectator and participant, was second only to his love of family and friends. Long after his own children graduated from Joel Barlow High School, Dave could be seen waving from the bleachers at Barlow basketball and football games, rooting for the home team. Dave met his future wife of 40 years, Natalie Ketcham, Redding's First Selectman, at Summit High School. They married in Summit, NJ in October 1971, and moved to Redding in 1980. He is also survived by their children Brian Ketcham and Sarah Kingsolver, Sarah's husband John Kingsolver and their children, Lily and Charlotte. He is also survived by a brother Scott Ketcham and a nephew Tom Marshall. He was predeceased by his parents Sanford and Francis Ketcham and sister Audrey Marshall. Friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Dave's life on Saturday, February 18th at 11am at Tarrywile Mansion in Danbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Parade Path memorial garden, P.O. Box 1028, Redding Center, CT 06875. His family also encourages Dave's friends to perform random acts of kindness in his memory.

To the Ketcham family...my deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. I just learned of the passing of Dave. I was Dave's secretary for many years at Sealed Air. He was an amazing person, so full of life and laughter. I alway remember taking Sara out for lunch and getting our nails done when she was just a little girl. So sad for your loss. Always, Nancy Geiger

My deepest sympathies go out to Natalie and her family. I had the pleasure of working with Dave in the Parks & Rec. basketball league many , many years ago. He was one of the nicest coaches to work with. He was fair and a very good sport - an all around good guy!

I had the pleasure of working for Dave many years ago. He had a passion and zest for life that one could see in his everyday enthusiasm. He always had a ready smile and the word "can't" was not a part of his vocabulary. The world will be a lesser place with Dave's absence, but heaven has gained an angel. My sincere condolences to Natalie and his family.

Dave was one of the most genuine human beings I have met in this life. His laugh was infectious as was his kindness and sincerity. I know I am a better person for knowing him. Thanks Dave, you live on in all of us, and will never be forgotten.

Hey old neighbors, I'm so sorry to hear about Dave. He was a wonderful man! Long after we moved out of town, I would run into him from time to time, usually at softball games. We had some really great discussions and he was always happy to see me and I him. And not once did he ever forget to ask about my mother. Great guy! I will always have fond memories of him.

I did not know David well having met him over the last year or so of his life as he participated in a discussion group at the Redding Community Center. I quickly came to regret not knowing him well enough. He was a gentle soul and his perspectives on the issues we discussed revealed him to be a thoughtful, very kind person who always had a good word for everyone. Despite the short time, everyone In the discussion group came to respect him and miss his voice at our weekly meetings. David was a good man and we pray that he has found peace and ask that the Lord provide Natalie and their family the consolation they so deserve.

You only needed to meet David for 5 minutes to know the man he was. Always a smile, a positive comment, and always making you feel special. He genuinely cared about others. Truly courageous and unforgettable. Much love to the family from Anita and Drew.

Dave was always a gregarious, bigger than life, Gentleman. I had the pleasure of working with and around him at Sealed Air for twenty-two years. He was always there with his Big Bear smile and words of wisdon, and I always felt his friendship when he would see me an utter, "here comes the Thespian"! He will be, like Joe Paterno, sorely missid. Jim Byrne, Jr.
