David Spaulding Obituary

David Spaulding David John Spaulding, passed away November 9, 2014, at the age of 54. Born in the Leap Year of 1960, David was the son of Jack and Alice Spaulding in San Luis Obispo. The San Luis Obispo native attended Cal Poly, where he graduated with an Animal Science degree. David often contributed his success in the agriculture field to loving what he did for a living, along with the wisdom and guidance of so many influential mentors in his life. A former member of the Cal Poly livestock judging team, he had the opportunity to judge and exhibit at many prestigious national livestock shows, where he enjoyed educating and working with young people in the junior livestock industry. His passion, energy and tenacity led David to a successful family-owned business in the purebred swine industry, where he served on many national and state boards, while acquiring national recognition in the show ring. Later in life, Dave became a strong advocate and salesman for the livestock feed industry, which ultimately culminated in a strong connection to the pet food and equine sector. He developed a love and appreciation of thoroughbreds and the sport of horse racing. An avid handicapper of the Daily Racing form, he enjoyed introducing newcomers to the sport of racing, and a day at the track. Throughout his life, David always felt he was very fortunate to be involved in sales and the agriculture industry. He was especially grateful for the many influential people who mentored and impacted his life. People he called friends, and connections that lasted a life time. David was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Siemsen. He is survived by his wife, Carmel; daughter, Bailey; son, Tyler and their fianc‚es Manny Padilla and Amanda Jarvis. His parents, Jack and Alice Spaulding. His brother, Craig Spaulding and wife Sharon, and Rod Spaulding and partner Corie. Nieces and nephews: Josh and Ryan Spaulding, Amanda Gray, Rickey and Patricia Lewis, Tara Carlson, Hillary Turner, Nicki, Cheyenne, Daniel and Kristin Humphrey, and numerous grand-nephews and nieces. Services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Myers Funeral Home in Porterville, Calif., followed by a celebration of life at Dave's home in Terra Bella, California The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the professionals and nursing staff at CBCC, Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, The Permanently Disabled Jockey's Fund, or the Old Friends Equine Retirement Home.
