Drew Crocker Obituary

Crocker, Drew A.
Drew Crocker (53) passed away at home on January 20th after a brief illness. He is survived by his father George Crocker, his mother Linda Talkington, his twin brother Darin, and Darin's wife Dorothy and their son Kyle. He had two step sisters Karin Face and Joan Bengtson and a step brother David Bengtson. Susan Schulte of Bethany had recently become his fiancé.
Drew graduated from Brookfield High School in 1979. He was an All-State high school gymnast, one of a few who mastered the "iron cross". He received his BS and MS at Southern Connecticut State University in special education and his 6th year certificate at UCONN. He received the following awards and honors: 2001 National Semi-finalist for Educational Technologist of the Year, 1991 ASSET of the Year (Apple Sponsored Special Education Technologist), and inclusion in Who's Who in American Education.
Drew worked at ACES, a school for disadvantaged children and young adults, for 23 years as a special education and technology teacher, was an independent computer consultant and trainer. Drew was a member of Saint Paul's Church in Brookfield where he was "born again" and served as a videographer for sermons and a cook for the Saturday morning Men's Prayer Breakfast and Bible study.
He was a volunteer at Dorothy Day soup kitchen, Jericho Partnership Inc, and Abilities Beyond Disabilities. Drew and Susan loved the outdoors: hiking, kayaking and camping. They also had a mutual concern for working with disabled people.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the memorial fund at Saint Paul's Church or any of the above listed causes.
Both the calling hours and the funeral will be held at Saint Paul's Church, 174 Whisconier Road, Brookfield. Calling hours are on Friday, January 31st from 5 to 7 pm, and the service of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 am. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Burial will be at St. Paul's Memorial Garden in the spring.

Our family will always remember the fun times that we all shared during the few visits we had from Connecticut kin. The visits by the Crockers to Kansas were always something our family enjoyed. As time, distance, and age made the visits less frequent, there was still a place in our hearts for our distant family. We are all deeply saddened by the passing of Drew, but are comforted to know that he was loved by so many. We will always have you in our hearts.

I met Drew in college and his roommate married my roommate. Many years later we re-connected through Facebook and found that I also worked with two of his ACES alumni. Those young men never forgot their teacher Drew, just as I never will. He was a one-of-a-kind soul. I am so sorry for your loss.

Very sorry to hear of Drew's passing. I did not know him well growing up in Brookfield but had the pleasure of working with him at ACES. He was a good soul. I was happy to see him a few months ago when he came to visit. He will be greatly missed.
Sending prayers and sympathy.

Bob and I send our deepest sympathies to George, Darin and Susan especially, and to the rest of Drew's family and friends. We have such fond memories of Drew as a teenager in Brookfield who became such a beloved teacher and friend to all those who were lucky enough to know him.
When death comes into our lives there is never time to prepare. May your memories of better times bring you joy. Drew brought so much joy to others that his spirit will continue to bless you. Sorrow never lasts but love does. May God's blessing reign upon us all as we share your grief.
Love to you all.

To Drew's family, and to Susan- Thoughts and prayers are with you - May the LORD wrap his great arms around you and comfort you during this time of loss. Drew became a mentor to me- We shared conversations of darkness , loss and regrets; sadness, hopes and dreams of the life ahead the Lord had planned for us. We spoke openly of our Lord without judgement, and I found comfort in his new-found FAITH. I will greatly miss him - he TRULY found happiness; and the great Love he found in Brookfield again breathed life back into him.... THANK YOU , DREW, for helping me through dark times... My heart mourns with your family....
