Ernst Krubsack Obituary

krubsack, ernst a.w.
Ernst A.W. "Ernie" Krubsack, of Sherman, passed away at New Milford Hospital on December 7, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, after battling cancer. Ernie was born on February 23, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the son of Ernst W. Krubsack of Bernau, Germany and Hermine Luser of Zwittau, Austria. Ernie graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1956 and joined the United States Air Force. Serving as a pilot, he was based at Malmstrom AFB, MT; KI Sawyer AFB, MI; and Hickam AFB, Hawaii until he was released from active-duty with the rank of Major. Ernie then began his career as an airline pilot, working for Trans World Airlines while continuing to serve in the Westchester Air National Guard. Ernie moved to Connecticut in 1969, living first in Brookfield and New Milford before settling in Sherman. In 1998, Ernie retired from TWA and the Air National Guard, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and began pursuing many of his other passions and interests. With his wife, Barbara as his "co-pilot", Ernie continued to travel extensively throughout the United States and Canada, driving their RV and exploring many National Parks and State Parks while visiting family and friends. He was an avid member of the Nutmeg Woodturner's Association, serving as co-president from 1999 to 2005; he actively participated in the Sherman's Veteran's Association, serving as Commander from 2006 to 2009; he enjoyed ice boating as a member of the Connecticut Ice Yacht Club; he participated on the Sherman Zoning Board of Appeals and he was elected Town Constable for Sherman. He was also an active member of the Holiday Point Association, in which he volunteered for many community improvement projects with his neighbors and friends. Ernie is survived by his much-loved wife of 52 years Barbara A. Krubsack; his two loving daughters Stacy Krubsack of Cedar Brook, NJ and Hilary Krubsack of Silver Spring, MD; his brothers Gary Krubsack of La Pointe, WI, Kim Krubsack of Albuquerque, NM and Roy Krubsack of Vernal, UT; his sister Judy Armstrong of Hot Springs, AR and many nieces and nephews.

Dear Barbara,
Ernie and I spent many hours together as instructors in the TWA simulator at the JFK training center. He was a true professional and was admired and respected by the hundreds of TWA pilots and flight engineers he instructed. We also shared the cockpit while with TWA. Ernie was among the best of the best. Brigitte and I will miss Ernie but our memories of him will last forever.
Please accept our sincere condolences.

Ernie and I were in Aviation Cadet Class 59-C. We traveled together from Texas to Georgia for further pilot training. We made a "Cultural Pit Stop" in New Orleans for some period of time. He made our visit more cultural than this farm boy from Michigan had ever experienced. I can still hear the laughter. God Speed Ernie. Barbara, the rest of Class 59-C is here for you if you need us.
