John Girolametti Obituary

John Joseph Girolametti, a native of Ridgefield, died peacefully on June 9, 2010 at Danbury Hospital. He was 77 years old. John was born on May 17, 1933, the son of the late Mario and Maria (Giambartolomei) Girolametti. He grew up in town, attended Ridgefield schools and was a local business man, operating The Old Ice House Restaurant and founding the town bowling alley, Ridge Bowl, along with his brother and sister. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served during the Korean War. John was an honorary life member of the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, where he once served as Assistant Chief. In addition to his volunteer service, John was also one of the first paid firemen in town. Always known for a good story and a smile, John will me missed dearly by his family and friends, including his friends at The Early Bird, where he was a regular. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Allegressa) of 51 years, his five children, Dianne (Frank) Walsh, John (Cindy), David (Lisa), Stephen, Lynn (Edward) Freer, all of Ridgefield. He also had seven grandchildren, Matthew, Stephen and Kristen Walsh, Amy, Lisa, and William Girolametti, and Michael Girolametti. Sisters-in-law Terri Raymond, of Ridgefield, Joan Mastrianni, of Norwalk, and Loretta Girolametti, of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother Louis, and his sister Mary Ann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10:15 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield. Entombment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery at the direction of the family. The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department, 6 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, CT 06877.
