Joseph Gordon Obituary
Dr. Joseph Robert Gordon passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at his home in Ridgefield with his family around him. He was 63.
Born in Oakland, California, the son of the late Drs. Leon and Elsa (Leiter) Gordon, he graduated from Stanford University in 1977 and received his medical degree from the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine in 1981.
He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, practicing general surgery for over 35 years and honored as Teacher of the Year many times. He practiced and taught in the Danbury area since 2002, and served as the Director of the Trauma Department at Danbury Hospital for a number of years. Throughout his medical career, he was known for his kindness, his skill, his sensitivity, and his immeasurable patience.
Dr. Gordon is survived by his loving wife Nancy Gordon and his children: Dr. Mallorie Gordon, M. Louis Gordon, Anna Gordon, and Gabriel Gordon. He is also survived by his siblings: Dr. Jo Carol Hiatt, Jennifer Cohen, and Marc Gordon.

I am deeply saddened to have just learned of Dr. Joseph Gordon's passing. He was more than just a doctor. Yes, he was a great sergeon, but so much more. He was a great man, always kind and compassionate, a real humanitarian, that always truly listened to people and his patients, but to me a hero. He saved my life, more than once. I am forever indebted and grateful to him for that. My deepest heart felt sympathies and condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in heavenly peace. Prayers.

Another year has passed, yet Dr. Gordon remains so present in our minds and hearts. He is missed so very much, what a wonderful man and doctor. It is still difficult to believe that he is gone. His extraordinary contributions to the medical field will always be remembered.

Just yesterday I had a long conversation with a Danbury physician about Dr. Gordon, not remembering that today would be the anniversary of him leaving this life. We talked of how wonderful he was to everyone he met. How loving and kind a human being he was, who was missed by so many and a one of a kind person who left far too early leaving a space that no other could fill. His knowledge as a physician out shown others but he never acted as if he were superior to them and perhaps that is one reason why he was so loved and respected during his time on earth, short as it was. He was such an intelligent and kind person. If angels are real, surely he is one, then heaven is a better place with him present and perhaps we will all meet him again when we too are there.

I was so lucky to have him present when I was brought to the emergency room with a perforated appendix that I had been walking around with for 5 days. He was so kind and caring. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I was very much an single (divorced) woman in her 60's with no one at my side. At one point he came into the room and said "you are feeling alone and scared aren't you". I burst into tears. We talked. He had a talk afterwards to the nurses and asked them to be kinder to me. They were. What a terrible loss. I felt love for him then and feel love for him now. Thank you Dr. Gordon.

I have just learned about Dr. Gordon passing...so sad ;-(. He was the most wonderful, thoughtful, caring Dr. I have ever met and will never forget him. He operated on me May 2000 in NH.
When he moved away my husband and I would drive down to Conn. to see him for my follow ups. He truly was an amazing person! My deepest sympathy to his family. May he rest in peace.

I just stumbled across this when researching something else. I did not know that Dr. Gordon had passed away! I am very saddened to learn this. He performed an appendectomy on my 13 yr old daughter in the middle of the night because after being sent her test results, he felt that he wanted to operate, " sooner rather than later." His bedside manner was wonderful...and he put a nervous teenager and her terrified mother at ease. I am so sorry for his family and friends and for our communities' loss of this great doctor and man

Dr. Gordon operated on my inguinal hernia about 5 years ago. It was the most challenging hernia operation he had ever faced. After 6 months of research he found a technique in Europe that would succeed in my case. It involved regularly inflating my abdomen until sufficient space was created to permit my hernia to be repositioned back in my abdomen. This is a huge loss. My heartfelt condolences go to all his family and all who knew this extraordinary human being.

Dr. Gordon was one of the kindest moist caring people have ever known. He cared for me over a several year period when I had a recurring medical issue and was always extremely patient and thoughtful. He will be greatly missed. My love and prayers go out to his family.

Dr. Gordon was my father's surgeon and showed him such incredible kindness, care, and time when Dad was ailing. I remember he drove to Danbury Hospital in a blizzard to check up on Dad & stayed with him for a while to keep him company. My heart goes out to his family for this great loss. He was a blessing to many many people.

I and my family are heartbroken to hear this sorrowful news. Dr. Gordon treated me for cancer back in 2009, and in all my 70 years, I have never come across such an intelligent, gifted, patient and truly kind physician.
