Leo Mostachetti Obituary

Mostachetti, Leo A.
Leo A. Mostachetti, 92, a lifelong resident of Wingdale, NY died on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at his home in Wingdale, NY. Leo along with his brothers, Armando and Bruno, owned and operated Mostachetti Brothers Store in Wingdale, NY for 32 years.
Born on August 2, 1922 in Wingdale, NY he was the son of the late Dante and Maria (Vettovalli) Mostachetti. Leo proudly served as a sergeant in the US Army with the Army Engineers in the South Pacific 753rd Unit during WWII. On April 2, 1948 in New York City he married Helen Slocum who survives at home.
Leo was a life member and founding member of Station 2 of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company in Wingdale, NY. Leo was a life member of both the American Legion Post#1949 in Wingdale, NY and the VFW Post #5444 in Amenia, NY. He served on numerous committees and elected positions including Past Commander, Post and Executive Officer and Housing Committee member. In 2008, Leo received the Dutchess County Legionaire Award.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper and was a life member of the Chestnut Ridge Rod and Gun Club in Dover Plains, NY. In 2004, Leo became an honorary member of the Ten Mile River Preserve in Dover Plains, NY. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Harlem Valley Golf Club in Wingdale, NY.
Leo was a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Chairman. He was also a little league coach and served as the Dutchess County Baseball Chairman. Leo was a founding member of the Dover, Wingdale and Pawling Little League and was a member of the Tri-State Baseball League, Harlem Valley Team. He organized and managed the Dover American Legion Baseball Team. In 1990, Leo was inducted into Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame.
Leo served a five year term on the Dover Union Free School District Board of Education and was a recipient of the Founder's Day PTSA Award. He was also a former chairman of the Town of Dover Recreation Committee. In 1997, Leo received the Town of Dover Citizen of the Year Award.
Leo was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains, NY and a member of the Pawling Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, Leo is survived by a son, Michael Mostachetti of Millbrook, NY and three daughters, Susan Mostachetti of Wappingers Falls, NY, Betsy Clark and her husband, Simon, of Gaylordsville, CT and Marianne Johnson and her husband, James, of Dover Plains, NY. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Towle of Palm Harbor, FL and seven grandchildren, Kaitlin and Julian Mostachetti, Rachel, Hillary and Bretburton Clark and Casey and Collin Johnson. Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by three brothers, Bertelo, Armando and Bruno Mostachetti; two sisters, Ida Fasanella and Priscilla Mostachetti and a grandson, Dante Mostachetti in 1989.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. The J.H. Ketcham Hose Company will conduct firematic services at 6:30 p.m. and the American Legion Post # 1949 will conduct services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Kent Wilson officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at South Dover Rural Cemetery in Wingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leo's name may be made to the American Legion Post #1949 P.O.
