Leo Null Obituary

Null, Leo P.
Leo Paul Null, 70, of Bridgewater, CT, passed away on July 17, 2016.
Leo was born in Danbury, CT, December 12, 1945, a son to Warren Joseph and Viola (Dutil) Null. He attended Danbury schools, graduating from Danbury High School in 1963 and Henry Abbott Technical School in 1965 as a draftsman. He later attended Norwalk Technical School.

Leo married Kathy Livingston of Ridgefield CT, on June 1, 1966. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Leo was a U.S. Marine Corps. Vietnam veteran serving as a combat engineer.
He worked all his life in the Danbury area, first as a draftsman at Republic Foil, then with various construction contractors and later established his own business as a Site Contractor and septic installer, which he continued for a number of years.
His last 29 years of his career were spent as the Danbury Chief Building Official. Leo took pride in his position as one who made public safety his number one concern. He took care to educate staff and citizens alike on the significance of good construction, and always made time to help contractors with their projects.
Active in the Bridgewater community, Leo participate in many areas of Bridgewater life. He was the Planning and Zoning Commission chairperson for over 20 years, supported the local Grange, a Boy Scout leader, worked in various booths at the annual Bridgewater Fair, and co-managed the annual Fishing Derby for local children. He currently served as a Bridgewater Selectman.
Leo had a lifelong love as a sportsman, from fly-fishing on the Housatonic River to Tarpon Fishing in the Keys. Upland bird hunting with his Brittany spaniel, Sassy, gave him many enjoyable experiences. He took his responsibility as a sportsman seriously and was member of several sportsman groups and worked on conservation projects.
His other passions over the years included restoring cars, including his latest 1935 Ford Coupe project. Leo loved history and was an avid reader. Friends and family will remember how much he loved his NY Yankees and NY Giants.
Most of all he loved family. He showed his sons the joy of camping and fishing, and taught them how to ride their bikes and motorbikes safely. Leo always had a special place in his heart for his grandson, Jonathan Null, for whom he was known to laugh with often.
Leo is survived by his wife, Kathy, his son, David Null, and daughter-in-law, Heather Null, and grandson, Jonathan Null, Southbury, CT, and his son, Christopher Null, of Bridgewater. He is also survived by his brother, Warren Null, and sister-in-law, Gail, of Southbury; his sister, Nancy, and brother-in-law, Rick Proulx, of Westford, MA. And, he is survived by his godmother/aunt Fern Rajcula, of Brookfield, CT, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life Gathering during the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016 in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury. Remarks of Remembrance to Celebrate the Life of Leo Null will commence at 7 p.m.

Kathy and Family:
Leo will be missed by all. I enjoyed my years working with him at City Hall. He was an "old school" kind of guy and I'm sure you've been left with many loving and "funny" memories. Bless you all.

My deepest condolences to he Null family. Leo was an exceptional person. We would always talk about his antique Ford restoration project and try as I may, he would not turn it into a hot rod. There are few in this world that you can say it was an honor to know, but Leo was one. God Bless and Semper Fi.

I am at a loss....Leo, friend, mentor, leader. I had a great opportunity to know Leo in all of these titles.
Leo never ever told me when I was wrong, he just smiled, raised an eyebrow and made me think it through.
Leo was a great sportsman partner in the field and an awesome Scout Leader. He mentored these young men as they learned the tasks associated with outdoor activities and stewardship. He will be deeply missed.
Kathy, David and Chris, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

We were neighbors with Leo for over 35 years and while we didn't always see things exactly the same way and often disagreed about many things, we were greatly saddened by the news of Leo's passing. We had our differences, but in the end, we've come to love Leo as a friend and want to express our heartfelt condolences to the Null family. Life's too short to hold on to grudges and we hope there are no hard feelings. May peace, love and healing be the last word. Kathy, if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to let us know.

Shocker. Leo is in the prayers of my family, as I am sure he is of most of Bridgewater. He has left a trail of genuine respect for his stellar public service as Head of Danbury's Building Department, and equally for his decades of steady, enlightened leadership for Bridgewater Planning & Zoning. So fond the memories shared with Leo of adventures in the outdoors, be it fly fishing, our upland bird dogs, or deer hunting. Leo truly embodied a genuine model of public service, so knowledgeable, so selfless, so well trusted for decades in Danbury, and in his beloved home town of Bridgewater. Help us stay on point from above, dear friend!

I had the pleasure of working with Leo for over 25 years. He possessed that rare quality of integrity, which sometimes made him seem really stubborn. He was a true friend and I could always count on him to tell me exactly what he thought even when I didn't want to hear it. RIP Leo, you were taken from us far too soon.

Dear Kathy,
I am saying prayers for you and the family. Leo was a great friend and brother to my Mom & Dad Laura & Bill Hull. I always remember what fun it was to go over your house on the 4th of July and set off fireworks and ride the dirt bike. We are so thankful he was a part of our life. What a loss for all of us.
