Lowell lived most of his life in Gaylordsville. He was the last Charter member of the Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department. He was only 16 at the time, but spent so much time in building and organizing the department, the members suspended the bylaws and voted him in as an active member. He was a Past Chief for a total of five years among serving in other offices. He retired in the mid-1990's.
He served in the US Army in the Korean Conflict and was a proud member of the New Milford VFW, American Legion Post and Korea War Veterans.
He was instrumental in organizing and constructing the Korea War Veterans Memorial in the New Milford Town Hall
Upon returning from Korea, he moved to Gaylordsville where he and his father built a house.
He lived there until 1993, when he built another house in Gaylordsville. He then moved to Danbury. He was an active member of the Gaylordsville United Methodist Church and as a young child the Wemenesa Grange. He also severed on the New Milford Zoning Board.
As a young man he was employed by a fire truck shop on Long Island. Upon moving to Gaylordsville he worked for New a Milford Motors, the first Volkswagen dealership in the United States. He also worked as a mechanic for CL&P. He then opened a gas station and repair shop in Park Lane in New Milford.
He then worked for many years at Bird Volkswagen in Danbury, and his last employment was with World Wide Volkswagen.
He enjoyed camping with his family, having made many trips, the biggest one to Yellowstone. Trips to Vermont were many, but his greatest love was his wife Charlotte and his Fire Department. The family would like to thank the staff at Glen Hill Nursing Home for taking such good care of him and to the Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department for all their assistance with his funeral.

My Dear Friend Lowell, may you rest in peace. In around 1962, Danbury VW was looking for a Service manager, I came to the rescue, and drove up to Lowell's home when I saw the Ad, he immediately went to Danbury, and got the Job, My Friend took good care of my VW's back then. So Sad to see my old friend pass.
