Seta Chengrian Obituary

Chengrian, Seta E.
Seta E. Chengrian died in her sleep on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 in Easley SC where she had resided since 2012. She was 95 years old. Seta was born in Istanbul, Turkey to the late Vartanoush and Khosrov Eighikian. She came to the United States when she was 10 years old in 1929 with her mother, brother and sister to join their father who had immigrated 5 years earlier. Seta married Kourken (Kurk) Chengrian in 1936 and they moved to Brookfield from New York City in 1960. They operated their business, the Towne Tailor, while living in and renovating the 1900s era hotel located next to the Brookfield Train Station. Kourken passed away in 1986. Seta made her home in Brookfield until 2012 when she moved to the warmer climate of South Carolina. Seta had many interests and spent time traveling both the US and abroad.. She enjoyed singing in the Congregational Church choir, collecting antigues, sewing and gardening. She liked playing cards and other activities at the Brookfield Senior Center. She started taking art classes mid life and became a prolific painter who participated in numerous art shows. She lived a long and happy life, and will be sorely missed by her whole familiy. Her children; Lucy Smith of Brookfield and favorite son-in-law Adolph Rosini, Michael Chengrian and wife Ann of Salem, SC and Ken Chengrian of Placerville, CA. Her 5 favorite grandsons, Ken Chengrian of Colorado, Dan Chengrian of CA, Jason Chengrian of GA, Adam Smith of New Milford, CT and Kristopher Smith of PA. Additionally her 7 great-granddaughters, 1 great-grandson and 1 great, great grandchild. She also leaves her life-long best friend, her brother, Carl Aiken, her niece and nephew and one new grand nephew, all of Las Vegas. There will be a celebration of Seta's life on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 pm at the Congregational Church of Brookfiedl, 160 Whisconier Road. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Book of Remembrance, Congregational Church, Brookfield CT.
