William Leverence Obituary

William "Billy" Leverence
William "Billy" Leverence passed away due to glioblastoma on July 18, 2019 at age 60, a loving husband to Sandy Leverence and devoted father to Blake and Bradley Leverence. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey and raised in Chappaqua, New York, Billy graduated from Alfred University and was a resident of Brookfield, CT for 30+ years.
For over 3 decades, Billy served the Westchester County Department of Transportation, retiring as Director. More recently, his community sought his expertise as he served the Town of Brookfield as Finance Director until an unfortunate election. In 2018, Billy was recognized by the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut for his unwavering commitment to the Town of Brookfield.
Billy was passionate about everything in his life, especially family, friends, music and sports. With his sense of humor and openness, Billy was the glue that kept friendships together. He brought his light and joy to coaching sons and friends in the community, bowling, golfing, and playing in softball and basketball leagues. Billy was a gifted musician. As a composer, lyricist, and arranger, he created lilting instrumentals, rock ballads and beautiful love songs. His improvisational sessions at the grand piano at Smilow Cancer Center became a favorite to visitors, staff and patients alike: the music flowed from Billy and captivated all passersby. During the past year, he traveled, enjoyed his family, took up painting, wrote a book, created a business and savored every moment of every day.
Billy was the son of the late Jeanne and George Leverence. In addition to devotion to his wife and children, Billy is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Brown (Tom), and their children, Jonathan, Jenna, and Justin. Billy's extended family includes sisters-in-law Cherie Hamblin, Margaret McCarthy (Tice) and their children Ryan and Emily; Laurie Amend (Bob) and her son, Tyler; and great nieces and nephews.
There will be a private celebration of Billy's life. Donations in Billy's name can be made to the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care at 30 Milestone Road Danbury, CT 06810,

I'm sorry I am learning of this so late. I was a college classmate of Billy's at Alfred University and from my memories of him, I can confirm that everything said about him in his Obituary is true! He was kind and fun and considerate and he brought joy to those who knew him. I am certain his death leaves a large hole in the lives and hearts of those who loved him. I pray that his family and current friends find comfort in each other and that there are many 'Billy' stories to tell that will bring smiles to faces for years to come. You have my deepest condolences.

Our condolences to the entire family. Although we only met Bill a couple times through Bonnie and Tom, we remember him as a friendly and fun loving guy. Bonnie and Tom are among our dearest friends and our hearts are broken for them and all that were close to Bill.

We will miss Billy. He was a cornerstone of the local scene - From Block Party karaoke anchor, to local bands, to Brookfield Government, and most common walker in our neighborhood. His smile was infectious.
Our condolences to Sandy, Blake, and Bradley. Be at Peace Billy until we all see you again.

Bill was a extraordinary guy; we worked together during some of Brookfield's "difficult times". I knew Bill to be an honest, honorable, standup guy who worked hard, always looking for ways to make things better. In those days, that was not easy. He was always optimistic; he chose to see the good in people and situations. He was a great guy to work with. He was fighter. I am sorry to learn that he has lost this round to his cancer, but it is good to know that he is pain free now and in a better place.

Bill, it was an honor to have known you and worked with you! God Bless,

Al Cameron

I was fortunate enough to work for Bill many years at Westchester County. Our relationship soon became far more than supervisor/subordinate. We became good friends. We played music together, talked and laughed constantly. I'm heartbroken. Rest in Peace my friend.

We are so very sorry to learn of Bill's passing. Brookfield was a better town and fortunate to have had such a smart, dedicated employee. He led by example and taught others in the face of adversity to stand strong. Here on earth for such a short time, his presence will always be felt.

Bill really loved Brookfield, and always sought to make it better. When residents stepped up to join in that effort, he made sure they knew they had his full support and encouragement. A wonderful guy with a great sense of humor, always professional, and a good friend. Truly a gentleman, he has been and will be sorely missed!
