William Newmark Obituary
William David Newmark, 91, of Danbury, died February 13, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in New York, NY, on May 29, 1924, the son of the late Julian and Harriet (Bornheim) Newmark. Bill attended school at DeWitt Clinton High School and joined the Navy. He was a WWII veteran and proudly served as a radioman on the USS Porpoise (SS-172) and USS Requin (SS-481).
Bill retired from Perkin-Elmer Corporation in 1990, where he worked as an electronics technician in the model shop. Bill was a loyal Yankees fan all his life.
Bill was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and served in the Holy Name Society and Parish Advisory Board. He also served as an usher for 40 years and called bingo for years on Friday night. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Abbott Newmark; children, William J. Newmark and wife, Patrice, of Newtown; Gary V. Newmark and wife, Debra, of Callands, VA; James B. Newmark and wife, Tracy, of Manchester; Chandra (Newmark) Weising and husband, Mark, of Old Hickory, TN; stepchildren, Brian Abbott and wife, Danelia, of Newtown; and Debra (Abbott) Bergeron and husband, Robert, of New Bedford, MA. Bill is also survived by many beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his first wife, Frances L. Spring Newmark, and his sister, Bernice (Newmark) Berger.
Services will be held from 12–2 PM on Wednesday, February 17, with a prayer service at 1:30 PM, Danbury Memorial Funeral Home, 117 South Street. Interment following at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org) or the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (dana-farber.org). Hi Dad, I´m with Billy, you would have loved that Super Bowl game!! I still go to call you to tell you things and then have to remind myself you´re not here. I´m sure you and Uncle Chet are having fun raising heck up there. I miss you like crazy.

Dad, you felt sad sometimes because you felt like you outlived your friends and most of your relatives but you had a lot more friends than you thought. I will especially miss our phone calls back and forth during March Madness and filling out the brackets together

A great guy and a fine gentleman who knew everybody's name (and game) at Triple Double Basketball, where he'd go to watch his son, Big Country (Billy) roam the post for years. He even attended when Billy couldn't make it. Loved chatting with him. He knew his stuff. RIP, WN.
