Arthur J. Buck, Jr., 82, life-long resident of Spring Valley, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023 at Aperion Care Spring Valley.
A funeral service for Art will begin at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 5, at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley. The Rev. Scott Potthoff will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the Spring Valley American Legion Honor Guard. The visitation for Art will be held Tuesday morning at the funeral home, from 9:00 AM until time of funeral services.
Arthur was born in Spring Valley to Arthur L. and Martha (Galnitis) Buck on June 22, 1941.
He was a graduate of Hall High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
During his 4 years of service in the CORPS, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; and Marksman Rifle Badge and was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Arthur worked as a salesman for Berry Bearing Company in Peru for 25 years. In his retirement years he worked at Precision Carwash in Spring Valley.
Art was a former commander of the SV American Legion Post #182. He was also a member of the Parish Nativity of Our Lord, Knights of Columbus, and former treasurer of the Rice River Boy's Club.
Arthur enjoyed cheering for his favorite football teams; the Hall Red Devils, Michigan State Spartans, and Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, sister and brother-in- law, and his greatest joy was spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret (McAdams) Buck of Spring Valley; his four daughters; Lisa (Edward) Zeglis of Spring Valley; Leslie (Mauricio) Portillo of Lansing MI; Carrie (Gregg) Lee of Kearney, MO; Melissa (Micheal) Silfies of Lamoille; a sister, Mary Jo Hammerich of Ladd; grandchildren, Logan, Macy, and Dani Zeglis, Evan and Lucas Portillo, Carissa (Robbie) Danaher and Cassidy (Brock) Kimball; Angela, Matthew and Lauren Silfies; and 4 great-grandchildren; Mila, Maiv, Monroe Danaher and Rory Kimball.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Sydney Buck; his grandson, Hunter Zeglis; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Francis Ward; and brother-in-law, Wayne Hammerich.
Arthur's family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Aperion Care Princeton and Spring Valley, Fresenius Kidney Care, Vitas Hospice Care, and all the wonderful friends he made while living at the St Margaret's Living Center in Spring Valley.
