Benedicto Q. Figuerres, M.D., 83, of Spring Valley, passed away at his home on Monday, October 6, 2025.
A funeral Mass of Christian burial for Benedicto will begin at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 13th, at Nativity of Our Lord Parish (St. Anthony Church) with Fr. Scott Potthoff officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, at the church, from 9:30 AM until time of funeral services.
The Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is honored to be assisting the Figuerres family at this time.
Dr. Figuerres was born on April 16, 1942, in Vigan Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to Bartolome and Lenore Figuerres. He married Teresa Fabriga on May 16, 1968.
Dr. Figuerres was longtime physician in the Illinois Valley, having received his education at the medical school at Far Eastern University in the Philippines, his surgical residency at the University of Louisville, cardiothoracic surgery fellowship training at Yale University, and oncology fellowship training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City.
He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Spring Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa, of Spring Valley; his daughters, Eleanor Figuerres (Michael Didinsky, spouse) of Kenosha, WI and Eileen Figuerres (Adrian Lee, spouse) of Springfield, IL; his son, Benedict (Kristina Enstrom) Figuerres of Topeka, KS; and six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lee, Alexa Didinsky, Kenley Didinsky, Aidan Lee, Graham Figuerres, and Gabriella Figuerres.

Working at St Margaret’s Hospital and also being my Doctor. Dr Figuerres was always a true gentleman and a soft spoken professional always. He earned the respect of everyone around him. I worked in the ER at SMH when Dr. Figuerres was there. He was kind and comforting with his patients and funny, kind, and caring of the people he worked with. He was a great physician and surgeon. I also had the privilege of being his neighbor for many years in Spring Valley. The family were the best neighbors ever! My sincerest sympathy to Theresa and family. You are all in my prayers.

At the ER in Saint Margaret’s he fixed up my shoulder, broken while doing a wheelie north of DePue, on my Honda SL 125.
He said, “Big, brave, motorcycle rider, you and I will be seeing a lot of one another if you keep doing wheelies.”
He had a great sense of humor. Godspeed Doctor and thank you for that good advice, which I ignored of course, to my regret.

Dr Figuerres was not only my Doctor, but I had the opportunity to work at St. Margaret's Hospital during his time there. He was so kind and patient. He listened to concerns. He always asked about my family. He was a great man and Doctor. I have only respect for him. My condolences to his wife and family.
