A Diehard Chicago Cub Fan, Daniel Andrew Vargochik, 79, of Henderson, Nevada, died peacefully at Southern Hills Hospital surrounded by family and friends at 11:16 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
He was born on December 9, 1943 in Streator, Illinois to Lottis and Ann (Farkas) Vargochik. He was lovingly raised by J. W. Adamson in Leonore, Illinois. He attended St. Peter & Paul Grade School in Leonore. He graduated from Tonica High School Class of 1961. He was employed by Leonore Grain and Feed. Later, he managed Tabor Grain in Leonore. He was proud of his military service in the Army from 1965-67 as Specialist 4 E4 in the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion in Camron Bay, Vietnam. He was an Agent Orange Survivor. He married Carol Sue Soberri on October 26,1968 at St. Mary's Church Wenona, Illinois.
He is survived by his loving bride of 54 years, daughters Tami (Lisa Carrara) and Danae along with "special" daughters Laura Jaegle Schreier, Jessica Hughes, Zarah Villareal and caregiver Jose Avidor, who Dan thought of like a son. His favorite mother-in-law Hazel Soberri. Family dog, Whiskey greatly misses Dan. He has six half brothers & sisters. He is extremely close to Jeannie Kraushaar & Jane McFadden. Brothers-in-Law, Joseph Soberri, Mark (Teresa) Soberri, Terry Kraushaar and Daryl McFadden along with his "Amigos," Joel Rabbe, Ron (Slim) Vlaming and reflexologist Deb Newton. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and stepfather along with stepsister Doris Chapman and very dear friend William Nicholson.
Dan served on the Leonore Fire Department for 39 years mostly as treasurer, Tonica Grade School Board 1976-1987 and Tonica High School Board 1988-90.
Services are to be held Monday, March 27, 2023 at St. Peter the Apostle at 10:30am Henderson Nevada followed by military services at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery with lunch to follow at Dan's favorite place The Skyline Casino. Pallbearers, the men who carried Dan through his long illness will be Jose Avidor, Brent Bornemeier, William Cross, James Crowder, Matt Vesic and Mike Vesic.
