Princeton - Dorothy Jean (Slater) Grafft, 95, of Princeton passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at OSF St. Claire.
Dorothy was born in the town of Cedar Rapids, Iowa to the late George Perry and Dora Olive (Wright) Slater on February 26, 1928. She was a graduate of Olin Consolidated School and graduated Class of 1945. She also attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa for one year.
She married Chester Marion Grafft on February 2, 1947. What she remembers most about her wedding day was how bitter cold the weather was that day, yet her heart was warm.
Dorothy worked at Montgomery Wards for a few years before starting her career at Citizens First National Bank as an internal investment administrator, a job she stayed at until she retired.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Women's Club, Circle of Velda Rose in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed seeing America in their motorhome, playing cards, especially bridge, wherever she was. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Dorothy are her two children, son, Duane Grafft and daughter Diane Grafft; two grandsons Mike (Beth) Grafft and Matt Grafft; two great grandsons, Christian and Gavin.
Preceded in death by her parents, George and Dora Slater, mother and father-in-law, Marion and Emma Grafft, her husband Chester Grafft, one brother Jay Slater and sister-in-law Rosemary Slater, brother-in-law Richard Grafft, sister-in-law Ruth Grafft and one grandson Eric Grafft.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Princeton, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Princeton, IL on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Ryan Sutton. Organist Charlie GeBeck.
A visitation will be held the following day, Sunday, January 7, 2024 in Olin, IA at Dawson Funeral Home 413 Walnut Street, Olin, IA from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Graveside services to follow January 7, 2024 at the Olin Iowa Cemetery in Olin, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. Officiated by Pastor Jennifer Zoller. Following graveside services a lite reception with finger food and refreshments will be held at the Olin Methodist Church.
