Died: August 4, 2022 in Peru, IL
James D. Smyth, 76, of Peru, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022 at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru with Pastor Soloman Sudhakar of Grace United Methodist Church, LaSalle, officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be held at 4:00 PM until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smyth was born January 5, 1946 in LaSalle. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Smyth married Bonnie Kencke on January 19, 1979 at the Church of Christ, LaSalle. He was employed with the Sheridan Prison as a correctional officer. Mr. Smyth was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, LaSalle. He loved NASCAR, stockcars, car shows and his dog, Dizzle who is meeting him at the pearly gates.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; his son, John O'Connell of Peru; one granddaughter, Scarlett Blue O'Connell; one brother, Greg (Rhonda) Schmidt of Peru; one sister, Barbara Sakes of LaSalle; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth (Conley) Schmidt; and one brother, Thomas Schmidt.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue.

Bonnie so sorry to hear about Jim . Turns out Joann works for me and told me. Small world. I had a stroke over 7 years ago and never recovered, but still at the same house.
