Died: January 2, 2022 in Long Grove, IL
Janis Ryan, 81 of Hoffman Estates, formerly of Mendota, IL. passed away January 2, 2022. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday January 8, 2022, at 12:00 pm in Holy Cross Catholic church, Mendota, IL. Burial will follow in Holy Cross cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 am until 11:30 am on Saturday in Wasmer Funeral Home Mendota, IL. Janis was born September 8, 1940, in Mendota to Lloyd and Irene (Klein) Cotton. She attended Mendota High School graduating in 1958. Janis studied Special Education at Northern Illinois University. During her work career she was a self-employed businesswoman and owner of Directional Strategies, Inc. Janis loved gardening and flowers, and was the most amazing, creative and loving mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her daughter: Jennifer Ryan of La Canada, California; 3 sons: John (Christine) Ryan of Mesa, Arizona, Jeff (Rosa) Ryan of Carol Stream, and Tim Ryan of Chicago; 6 grandchildren: Cassidy Ryan, Kylie Fletcher, Brody Ryan, Cesar Diaz, Stephen Diaz and Julia Olvera Ryan; 2 sisters: Mary (Dwight) Stone of Germantown Hills and Carol Sheridan of Rockford; 2 brothers: Robert Cotton of Mendota and Dale Cotton of Mendota. She was proceeded in death by her parents, 2 sisters: Donna Barbier and Norma Wright, and brother Dean Cotton. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at wasmerfuneralhome.com.

Dear Jennifer and family, I was so very sorry to learn about the passing of your dear Mom! There´s just no easy way to lose someone so near and dear to your heart, no matter their age or the circumstances! Janis was a dear friend, starting in Grade School, through High School and beyond! I have such fond memories of so many fun experiences we shared together... like the slumber parties she had at her house, and the awesome cookies your grandmother worked so hard to make for us! I was always so happy to see her at our class reunions, or any other time we both happened to be back in Mendota at the same time. I was blessed to have known her and call her my friend...Please accept my Deepest Sympathy and know that you are all in my thoughts and in my prayers. Marilyn
