Died: September 2, 2024 in La Salle, IL
John S. Giovannini, 94, of Peru, passed away peacefully September 2, 2024 at the Illinois Veteran's Home at La Salle with his family by his side.
Memorial mass will be 11:00 AM Friday September 13 at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Shrine in La Salle with Rev. Gregory Jarzombek OSB officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with his arrangements.
John was born in Seatonville on July 11, 1930 to Michael and Jenny Giovannini. He married Elizabeth Messino on February 16, 1952. John served with the 101st Airborne from 1952-1954. He was a proud veteran who lived the last six months at the La Salle Veteran's Home where he was a popular resident. John worked as a pressman most of his career and retired from RR Donnelly in Mendota. He was a devoted family man and loved by all. He will be rejoining Betty, his wife of 66 years, and his daughter Mary Petre, who passed away in 2020.
John is survived by two sons Michael (Sandy) Giovannini of Naperville and Jim Giovannini of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren Eric Petre, Gina Neitzel, Alex (Kelly) Giovannini, and John (Colleen) Giovannini; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Illinois Veteran's Home at La Salle in honor of John.
