John D. Vitale, 93, of Peru, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, June 13, 2022 at St. Margaret's Health in Peru with his family at his side.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru with Rev. Gregory Jarzombek, OSB officiating. Burial will follow in Peru City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Vitale was born February 13, 1929 in Wyandotte, MI to Leonardo and Rose (Dinoto) Vitale. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He married Mickey M. Orsinger on November 21, 1953 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle.
Mr. Vitale was a loving husband and father and he loved laughing and singing. Together, with his wife, they owned and operated Vitale's House of Pizza in Mesa, AZ and Palermo's Pizza, Club Sorrento and Vitale's Donut Hut all in Peru. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Peru.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Debbie) Vitale of Dalzell and Leonard Vitale of Peru; five grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Robin, Misty, and Jack; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lou Yanke and Leah (Bob) Koehler both of Peru and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mickey on July 5, 2019; one son, John Vitale on January 16, 2019; one grandson, Johnny Vitale on July 5, 2017; one granddaughter, Renee Baum on July 16, 2021; two great-granddaughters, Katelyn and Ruby and his brother, Joseph Vitale.
