Kenneth W. Schmidt, 83, of LaSalle, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at his home.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2022 at the Zion United Church of Christ, Peru with Rev. Alex Garncarz, pastor officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home, LaSalle.
Mr. Schmidt was born December 15, 1938 in Peru to Arnold and Rose (Maheux) Schmidt. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School. He married Nancy Burash on December 10, 1983 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Peru.
Mr. Schmidt was "mister-fix-it" and had a real talent at repairing anything. He was also a "jack-of-all-trades", beginning by working on the family farm in his youth and later was employed at M & H Zinc Co., Westclox, Rolling Mills, and Illinois Valley Food Center. Along with his wife, Nancy, they owned and operated the Crockpot Restaurant and worked in real estate. He also enjoyed garden tilling as a hobby for many years. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Peru.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; eight children, Richard (Debbie) Schmidt, and Darryl (Tonya Jordan) Schmidt both of LaSalle, Jill Adams of Hawaii, Jeff (Chris Coan) Ashlock of Wheeling, Jen (Will Price) Lambert of Peru, Ed Miller, Nikki (fiance, Robert Griffith) Sondgeroth, and Tracy Mennie all of LaSalle; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sharon Washkowiak of LaSalle; his mother-in-law, Mary Fiedler; sister-in-law, Theresa Grove of LaSalle; and brother-in-law, Edward (Peggy) Burash of Mark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard in infancy; his father-in-law, Otto Fiedler; and two brothers-in-law, John Sheldon Grove and David Burash.
