Born: October 23, 1937 in Chicago, IL
Died: October 5, 2025 in Tallahassee, FL
Laurence E. Pierson, Formerly of Peru, IL, passed away in Tallahassee, FL.
Mr. Pierson taught history and Spanish at LaSalle-Peru Township High School in the early 1960s. He was a professor of Spanish at LaSalle-Peru-Oglesby (LPO) Junior College, which became Illinois Valley Community College; a position he held from 1963-1983. He founded and coached the Chess Club at both L-P High School and IVCC and attended many tournaments around the country. Laurence was a founding member of the Peru Lions Club in the 1960s and was an active member until he left the area in 1984. Laurence concluded his teaching career at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, FL, in 2019. He is survived by children, Bonnie McCutchen of Jackson, GA; Chris Pierson of Havana, FL; Kenneth Pierson of Tallahassee, FL; Thomas Pierson of Springfield, IL; Trudy Altman of DeFuniak Springs, FL; and his second wife, Nancy Jean Krehbiel. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Jean Hawkins (1937-1996); a son, Randall Pierson (1959-2023); and an infant daughter, Peggy Anne Pierson (1968).
