Marie Emmerling Obituary

Marie "The Raviola Lady" Emmerling
Born: March 25, 1941
Died: March 8, 2025
Marie Elaine Emmerling, "The Raviola Lady", age 83, of Spring Valley, passed away at home surrounded by her family, on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Marie will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 13th, at Nativity of Our Lord Parish (St. Anthony Church) in Spring Valley. The Rev. Scott Potthoff will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Marie will be held at the church, on Wednesday evening, March 12th, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, as well as for one hour prior to funeral services on Thursday morning.
The Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is honored to be assisting Marie's family.
Marie was born in Spring Valley on March 25, 1941 to Joseph and Sophie (Palmieri) Taliano. She married Terrence F. Emmerling Sr. on November 28, 1959 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. They recently celebrated 65 years together.
Marie was a graduate of Hall High School and was retired from Verucchi's Ristorante, where she had worked with the Verucchi family her entire life. She was also an instrumental figure at St. Anthony's/Nativity of Our Lord Parish. She was a life member of the church, serving an integral role on the building committee for St. Anthony's/Nativity of Our Lord. She was a member of the Mother Cabrini Sodality/Ladies of God's Grace and served as chairman of the annual salad bar luncheons. She started and co-founded (with Marie Sabatini) the raviola making at St. Anthony's over 25 years ago and volunteered for anything the church needed, such as Century Club and bingo. She spent years of her life volunteering and providing philanthropic work for numerous charitable organizations, such as the Spring Valley Historical Museum, Spring Valley Little League and Girls' Softball, and the Girl Scouts/Brownies. She raised funds for the Spring Valley Police Department to purchase defibrillators for squad cars and spent hours working the concession stands at Hall High School.
Most importantly, Marie's life revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and she will be remembered as a great mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to their annual Wisconsin fishing trip. Her family and friends were very important in her life.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, Terry F. Emmerling Sr., of Spring Valley; her daughters, Susan M. Swingle of Morton, IL and Julie A. (Kerry) Eilers of Spring Valley; her son, Terry F. (Sheryl) Emmerling of Granville; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; her sister, Patricia Terando, of Spring Valley; and her two brothers, Joe and Jim Taliano of Spring Valley.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jacob, Matthew, and Brian Eilers, Adam and Noah Emmerling, Michael Swingle, and in cherished memory, her grandson Zachary Swingle, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marie's memory to Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Hall Township Food Pantry, Perfectly Flawed Foundation, or a charity of your choice. A guestbook may be signed and memories shared by visiting bartofh.com.
