Matthew Wallis Obituary

Matthew J. Wallis
Born: December 5, 1961 in Rockford, IL
Died: August 2, 2024 in Mendota, IL
Matthew J. Wallis, 62 of Mendota passed away unexpectedly on August 2, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be August 17 from 1pm to 3pm in Wasmer Funeral Home.
Matt was born December 5, 1961, in Rockford, Illinois to Waymon and Joann (Berridge) Wallis. He graduated Jefferson High School in 1979. He and his identical twin Mark moved to Mendota in 2007. Small town living agreed with Matt. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and belonged to a local motorcycle club. Matt became involved in the community working numerous hours with Nightengale's helping those less fortunate than he. In his last selfless act on earth, he donated his tissue and organs.
Matt was currently working as a truck driver with Lilja Tiling.
Matt will be dearly missed by his 2 brothers Waymon (Frieda) Wallis Jr of Temple, GA and Victor Wallis of Rockton, sister Denise Mcelyea of Loves Park, 2 grandchildren Alek Owen-Wallis and Emalynn Owen, his fur companion Asa, several nieces and nephews, and special friends Amber Gonzalez and Kim Abel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Mark on 2/12/2020, daughter Tiffany Wallis, sister Diane, sister-in-law Lisa Wallis and brother-in-law Gary Mcelyea.
Memorials may be directed to Nightengale's. Condolences may be left at wasmerfuneralhome.com.
