Michael L Beard "Coach", 79, of Oglesby died at 6:30 AM November 8, 2024 in OSF St Elizabeth Medical Center, Peru.
Mike was born November 28, 1944 in Vermillion County, IN to Clifford and Hattie Mae (Lee) Beard. He married Linda Dorre September 4, 1965 in North Riverside, IL.
Mike graduated from Goodland High School in Goodland, IN, and furthered his education at the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN. He embarked on a fulfilling career as a teacher, athletic director, and coach at Conrady Jr. High in Palos Hills, IL, Simmons Jr. High, and Columbus Manor both in Oak Lawn, IL. After retiring from teaching, Mike and his wife moved to Arizona, where they opened a go-kart business.
Mike was a caring, selfless, and hardworking individual. His hobbies included driving his Truckster named Spunky Monkey, sharing his love of sports with his daughter Kim and go- karting with his daughter Kris. Above all, his family was the cornerstone of his life. He cherished spending time with them, especially playing card games with Linda after every meal.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda; daughters, Kimberly (Bill) Briddick and Kristin (Marty) Villalovos; grandchildren, Erika Villalovos, Robert (Brittany) Rubio, Janelle Villalovos, Alexandra (Jake) Quesse, Martin Villalovos Jr, and Michael (Jackelyn) Villalovos; bonus grandchildren, Brandon, Brianna, and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Weston, Aaliyah, Xavi, Liam, and the soon-to-arrive Camila. Mike also leaves behind his sister, Linda Summers, and sister-in-law, Bobette Dorre and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, David Dorre.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date. Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby is in charge of arrangements.
