Born: October 7, 1956 in Logan, WV
Died: November 24, 2022 in Spring Valley, IL
Ray Dempsey, 66, of Spring Valley, ended his long fight with cancer on Thanksgiving evening at St. Margarets' Health-Spring Valley, while surrounded by family.
Per his wishes, cremation will be accorded and there will be no services. A private family burial service will be held at a later date. The Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is honored to assist Ray's family at this time.
Ray was born on October 7, 1956 to Jack and Elizabeth (Bryant) Dempsey in Logan, West Virginia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1975 and then moved to Illinois in 1978. He married Mary K. Francisco on November 22, 1980.
Ray was a member of Local #393, and he worked for Advanced Asphalt until his retirement. Ray enjoyed his garden, hunting with Bud, and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by many, especially by anyone who needed a helping hand.
Ray is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Mark (Anna) Dempsey; his three grandchildren, Jack, Lila, and Cora; his sisters, Jewel Fields of Kentucky and Susie (Dennis) Carter of West Virginia; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol; and his brothers, Danny, Billy, Sheldon, Tim, Phil, and Shawn.
In lieu of flowers, Ray's family kindly suggests donations in Ray's memory be made to Cops 4 Cancer.
